JOB SUMMARY

The Safety Partner is responsible for the implementation of corporate occupational health, safety and environment (OHSE) objectives and activities that contribute to the achievement of Hydro Ottawa’s OHSE goals and strategic priorities.The Safety Partner conducts regular site audits and inspections to ensure compliance with the OHSE programs and regulations, provides consultative and advisory services to support the ongoing implementation of these programs.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of policies, programs, procedures and guidelines and facilitate their implementation at the operational level

  • Conduct regular site inspections to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations

  • Develop and deliver OHSE programs and training that complies with all legal training requirements and the planning and implementation of Hydro Ottawa’s OHSE goals and priorities, including driver competency assessments

  • Participate in the preparation, conduct and follow-up to internal and external audits of the Hydro Ottawa ISO 14001/ISO 45001 registered OHSE Management System

  • Participate in the preparation, conduct and follow-up of Electrical Safety Authority Regulation 22/04 Electrical Distribution Safety audits

  • Support the adoption and use of technology for the tracking of site inspections, investigations and safety equipment

  • Establish and maintain membership and/or relationships with OHSE related professional associations, committees and industry partners, and act as a liaison between Hydro Ottawa and these associations and industry partners, as well as external government agencies such as the Ministry of Labour

  • Investigate, review, evaluate and respond to inquiries from employees, the JHSC, managers, supervisors and external parties regarding the company’s occupational health and safety policies, programs and practices

  • Conduct investigations of incidents and near misses, including root cause analysis, to determine underlying factors and implement effective corrective actions

  • Perform other duties as required

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Post-secondary education in occupational health and safety; OR relevant engineering, technical or construction qualifications/certifications; OR journeyperson level certification in an appropriate trade with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience 

  • Working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and related regulations 

  • Working knowledge of the Electrical Utility Safety Rules, Utility Work Protection Code and generally accepted electrical utility sector safety policies, best practices and standards

  • Experience in conducting site inspections and audits to proactively identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with OHSE regulations and standards

  • General knowledge of the fundamentals of OHSE management system structure, implementation and auditing

  • Experience in providing occupational health and safety training for joint health and safety committees, workers and supervisors

  • Strong computer skills; proficient in the use of office productivity and collaboration tools, preferably Google Workspace;  experience using OHSE and HRIS systems considered an asset

  • Work experience directly related to Occupational Health and Safety considered an asset

  • Professional designation, or the ability to attain designation within five years of the date of hire considered an asset (e.g. Certified Utility Safety Professional (CUSP), or Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or Canadian Registered Safety Technician (CRST), Knowledge of the utility industry and electricity sector is considered an asset 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • English essential, both oral and written; Bilingual (English/French) considered an asset

  • Valid driver’s license - Class G

  • Successful completion of Driver Competency Assessment

This is a management group opportunity and salary will be commensurate with qualifications.

Hydro Ottawa offers a Hybrid Work Model. Hybrid work is position specific, details of the hybrid model will be discussed with successful candidates.

This is a management group opportunity. The annual salary range for this position identified below depends on experience, education, and professional designation. The successful candidate will be offered a salary within this range based on their qualifications.

Pay Range Minimum:

$74,517.10

Pay Range Maximum:

$111,775.67
