Posting Description

Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship in Child Health Evaluative Sciences with a focus on use of biologics during pregnancy with women with autoimmune disorders and maternal and infant/child outcomes.

We are seeking a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow to join a research team dedicated to reducing the burden of morbidity and mortality in mothers and infants. The position involves working with large administrative health databases, both within and outside of Canada, to identify risk factors in the pre-conception and perinatal period that contribute to adverse maternal and infant outcomes.

This position is full time under the joint supervision of Dr. Sonia Grandi, Scientist, Child Health Evaluative Sciences Program, The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids), and Assistant Professor in the Division of Epidemiology, Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto and Dr. Cristina Longo, Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Montreal and a Scientist in the Research Institute of Centre Hospitalier de Ste Justine.

The focus of the work will be to use administrative health data, across several provincial jurisdictions, to examine prenatal exposures to biologic medications and their influence on maternal, infant, and child outcomes. Methodological work pertaining to the use of administrative health data, federated analyses, and machine learning will also be part of this fellowship. This position will primarily take place at the Child Health Evaluative Sciences program of the Research Institute of The Hospital for Sick Children. The fellow will work with an interdisciplinary team of researchers at SickKids, University of Toronto, University of Montreal, and various institutes across Canada and abroad including experts in perinatal epidemiology, biostatistics, obstetrics, pediatrics, health services research, and pharmacoepidemiology. The fellow will be responsible for the conception and drafting of protocols, data analysis, and drafting of manuscripts and presentations. Experience and training in epidemiology, causal inference, and use of administrative health research are preferred. The fellow will have the opportunity to mentor junior members on the team and to collaborate and contribute to other ongoing projects. Research training and career development will be available through the Research Training Centre at SickKids and University of Toronto.

When applying to the position, please include a cover letter outlining your motivation to work with this group, your relevant experience, and a brief description of your long-term career goals and how this position will help to facilitate these goals. Please also provide a list of two references (1 of which should be the PhD supervisor), and a list of 3 potential research ideas to pursue during the fellowship. This is a 1-year full-time position (35 hours/week) with the possibility to extend to 2-3 years. The start date is flexible, but ideally the candidate would begin in Fall/Winter 2026.
