Unit / Project Description:

The Evidence in Allergy Group uses clinical trials and observational studies to address food allergy and anaphylaxis. We are seeking a motivated clinical research coordinator to join and grow with our group that is centered at McMaster University Medical Centre.

Food allergy is a growing global problem that affects 1 in 2 Canadian households and over 3 million nationwide. We aim to improve the diagnosis and management of food allergy. The Evidence in Allergy group, based out of McMaster University Medical Centre, collaborates with patient advocacy groups, Health Canada, international investigators and guideline developers to achieve these aims.

Job Summary:

The Research Dietician is responsible for providing support of a routine nature related to the collection and review of data, dietitian input, and research for a research program, working with both research and clinical staff.

Accountabilities:

• Assist with all aspects of the research study, including consenting and interviewing participants, conducting screenings and assessments, preparing and administering food, completing questionnaires.
• Collaborate with research staff and interdisciplinary teams to assess nutritional needs, develop and evaluate dietary plans.
• Contribute to academic research in food and nutrition, support study participants and health professionals.
• Assist in training and monitoring to ensure adherence to study protocols and regulations.
• Analyze current scientific nutritional studies, conduct research and evaluate program effectiveness to improve the value, taste, appearance and preparation of food.
• Prepare research diets/foods and associated quality control/assurance and documentation.
• Plan, evaluate, conduct nutrition programs and develop nutrition materials for various audiences.
• Conduct preliminary, basic analyses and prepare summaries of data. 
• Manage and utilize data systems by inputting and maintaining records, designing databases and collection tools, retrieving information for reports and publications.
• Review patient charts and documentation in compliance with scientific and regulatory guidelines.
• Participate in research project meetings and propose recommendations for procedure modifications and development in the areas of data management, quality control, and assurance.
• Create, review, and iteratively revising standard operating procedures.
• Developing estimates of time and resources for research projects.
• Troubleshooting problems at all stages of project development and implementation and assisting with modifying protocol or project procedures to address challenges.
• Participating with a team in the development and authoring of research protocols.
• Conducting project participant interaction and data collection.
• Applying specialized knowledge and scientific principles to review, critically appraise and interpret published literature to advance project aims.
• Support Principal Investigator(s) in preparation of proposals, grant budgeting and writing.

Skills and Qualifications:

• Bachelors Degree in Applied Human Nutrition or Science.
• Requires a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience
• Must be a member in good standing with the College of Dietitians of Ontario
• The ideal candidate also has experience with the following:
  • Experience working with adults and children in food allergy research or related activities.
  • Excellent organization and communication (written, verbal, presentation) skills.
