Process Engineer - Paper Mill

The Process Engineer - Paper Mill will be based out of Toronto, Ontario (1551 Weston Road, M6M 4Y4) and the main responsibility of the Process Engineer will be to provide technical support and assistance to operations and to spearhead all process activities for a specific asset. This technical assistance will ensure that continuous improvement to tissue machine performance is carried forth through process control, system analysis and system change that require upgrades. The process engineer will strive for continuous improvement through system stability. This is a permanent, full-time position.

Job Requirements
- Bachelor of Engineering Chemical or Pulp & Paper Science preferred (experience in Mechanical and/or Electrical & Instrumentation is an asset)
- Professional Engineering designation an asset
- 3-5 Years of experience required in Mechanical or related field
- Previous experience in the paper industry is considered an asset;
- Clear understanding of Health and Safety regulations and a proven commitment and dedication to safety;
- Experience with coaching lean six sigma projects is considered an asset
- Proven leadership ability with capability of teaching, mentoring, delegating and following-up with the operating team;
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple competing priorities and changing conditions while implementing practical and timely solutions.
- Knowledge of PI data systems, Parcview, and PowerBI is considered an asset
The main duties/responsibilities of this role include:
- Provide troubleshooting assistance to the Machine Managers and Operators
- Performing operational standard work such as reviewing quality parameters, process unit variability, downtime events, and production tracking
- Analysis of process unit operations such as refiners, pulping systems, vacuum system analysis, etc. to ensure all unit operations are operating to their full potential with minimal variance and problems. Process stability is essential to ensure proper operation of the machines
- Lead or contribute to operational and safety initiatives
- Develop strong relationships with operations, maintenance, and quality groups
- Responsible for all the chemical systems in the paper mill, along with the respective machine managers, will ensure integrity of these systems through required maintenance.
- Manages clothing trials, performance and inventory
- Assist trials from planning to execution, data analysis, reporting and communication of results to all stakeholders.
- Rollout process changes related to improvements to the teams
- Understand the responsibilities for all operator positions
- Supervision of Wet lab Co-op employee if and when the position exists
- Drives Continuous Improvement through the evaluation of new technologies, implementation of process changes, and the development of systems and standards to improve safety, quality, production and operating costs
- Leads the technical process for assigned asset(s) to solve equipment and process related problems
- Lead trials from planning to execution, data analysis, reporting and communication of results to all stakeholders
- Participates in the development of operations team members and junior engineers
