The Principal, will play a critical role in navigating the Canadian infrastructure finance landscape, shaping strategic direction, and advising on how Canada can deploy structured and project finance solutions to unlock complex infrastructure projects as well projects that add to industrial and productive capacity in Canada. This role will regularly engage with federal and provincial governments, Crown corporations, and senior executives, and will act as a trusted advisor on market structure, financing approaches, and stakeholder alignment. This is a strategic, market‑facing advisory position focused on influence, insight, and system‑level impact.

Why consider this opportunity?

If you’ve built a career in project or structured finance and are looking to apply your expertise in a more strategic, purpose‑driven way, this role offers a compelling next chapter. It combines senior‑level influence, national impact, and a sustainable pace—allowing you to focus on meaningful outcomes rather than transaction volume.

This role provides the opportunity to shape Canada’s trade‑enabling infrastructure ecosystem, strengthen the country’s long‑term economic resilience and improve productive capacity, and serve as a trusted advisor to senior leaders across federal and provincial governments and Crown organizations.

What you will be doing:

As Principal Advisor, Structured Project Finance, you will:

  • Help establish and shape EDC and the SPF team’s engagement in Canada’s Trade-Enabling Infrastructure priority, including its strategic focus, market positioning, and value proposition within Canada’s infrastructure ecosystem.
  • Serve as a senior advisor on structured and project financing, providing expert guidance on complex infrastructure financing models, market structures, and risk allocation in line with EDC’s risk appetite and market positioning.
  • Navigate the Canadian infrastructure market, identifying trends, constraints, and opportunities related to trade‑enabling infrastructure and large‑scale capital projects.
  • Advise on how Canada can advance its infrastructure objectives through innovative financing structures and partnerships across the public and private sectors.
  • Engage and manage senior stakeholder relationships, including provincial governments, federal departments, Crown corporations, and other systemically important partners.
  • Represent the organization at high‑level external forums, including Government of Canada discussions, senior executive meetings, and strategic intergovernmental engagements.
  • Act as a trusted internal advisor to senior leaders, providing market intelligence, strategic insight, and thought leadership to support decision‑making.
  • Support the development of this new business line by shaping strategy, influencing priorities, and enabling alignment across internal and external stakeholders.

What we are looking for:

  • 10+ years of experience in structured and project finance, with a strong focus on infrastructure (trade and transport, digital, power related industries), public‑private partnerships, and/or large, complex capital projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate as a trusted advisor at the most senior levels, including advising executives, boards, governments, and Crown corporations.
  • Deep knowledge of the Canadian infrastructure and public‑sector landscape, including the roles and interdependencies of federal and provincial governments.
  • Strong market credibility, with a proven ability to influence outcomes through insight, judgment, and relationships rather than transaction execution alone.
  • Proven experience building, managing, and sustaining complex stakeholder relationships across jurisdictions, sectors, and mandates.
  • Strategic mindset with the ability to connect financial structures, credit considerations, and risk frameworks to broader policy, economic, and trade objectives.
  • Strong credit and financial analysis capabilities, coupled with sound commercial judgment.
  • Exceptional communication, presentation, and relationship‑management skills, with the ability to influence and negotiate effectively with senior audiences.
  • Highly developed sense of diplomacy, motivation, initiative, and personal agility when navigating ambiguity and complexity.
  • Strong strategic thinking, planning, and execution capabilities.
  • MBA or equivalent combination of advanced education and senior‑level professional experience.

What will make you stand out:

  • Professional designation (CFA, CA, CMA or CGA)
