Your Opportunity

  • Your role as the Mechanical Engineer within the Industrial Studio, is to work alongside a team of highly skilled Engineers, Engineers in Training, Technologists, Designers and Co-Op staff to successfully execute projects of varying sizes and complexity. The Mechanical Engineer role is also responsible for contributing to the development, mentoring, and coaching of team members using your specialized knowledge of mechanical systems, means and methods, materials, and industry standards. You will be responsible for aligning and enforcing technical quality for all your deliverables and advance the efficiency and efficacy of all mechanical team members.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Workload and resource planning with the Industrial Mechanical team, coordinating with the Team Leads and team members – including Engineers, Engineers in Training, Technologists, and Co-Ops.
  • Engages with other team members and other mechanical staff within the BC to assist with technical development.
  • Internal leadership in design excellence, coaching, recruitment and retention.
  • Can lead and assist in the development of single discipline.
  • Provide fee development and technical writing support for mechanical components of medium to large multi-disciplinary proposals.
  • Providing technical input and support for large projects of high complexity.
  • Evaluates, selects, specifies, and engineers all mechanical engineered systems or products for a project.
  • Engages in the development of a design through sketches, electronic models, diagrams and other visual formats.
  • Utilizes BIM technologies in the development of three-dimensional models of building’s mechanical systems and provides markups for junior engineers.
  • Prepares and revises documentation in various mechanical phases including site plans, floor plans, diagrams, and details.
  • Leads project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, owner and contractor, sub-contractors, and vendors.
  • Participates in client project requirement meetings, value analysis, and basic cost estimating.
  • Leads the preparation and coordination of the project specifications with construction documents.
  • Participates in constructability review.
  • Conducts quality assurance and quality control on own projects and projects of peers.
  • Assists in the development of new standards and specifications for the mechanical group.
  • Develops project scope, budgets, and design approach for all sizes of projects.
  • Oversees and manages multiple projects.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Requisite knowledge and application of applicable building codes and applicable building and energy codes.
  • General understanding of all phases of project document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, means and methods, materials, and industry standards.
  • Ability to check the work of others for accuracy and completeness and manage time to meet project budget and schedule.
  • Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought.
  • Thorough understanding of mechanical engineering concepts and ability to effectively communicate ideas to others.
  • Must be able to qualify for Security Clearance with the Department of National Defense.
  • Advanced oral and written communication skills.
  • Presentation and interview skills are preferred.
  • Requires understanding of Microsoft Office Suite, Revit, AutoCAD, Revizto, and heat load calculation software.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent, in Mechanical Engineering & Licensed Professional Engineer.

Minimum of 8 years of experience.

LEED Green Associate or LEED AP preferred.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Pay transparency laws require employers to provide the following information for positions that may be in the following jurisdiction(s):

Salary Range(s):

• Locations in Lower Mainland - BC - Min Salary $ 91,800.00 - Max Salary $ 133,100.00

The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
