Marketing Officer - Events 

Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity aims to inspire everyone who attends our campus – artists, leaders, and thinkers – to unleash their creative potential.

In the spirit of respect and truth, we honour and acknowledge the Banff area, known as “Minhrpa” (translated in Stoney Nakoda as “the waterfalls”) and the Treaty 7 territory and oral practices of the Îyârhe Nakoda (Stoney Nakoda) – comprised of the Bearspaw, Chiniki, and Goodstoney Nations – as well as the Tsuut’ina First Nation and the Blackfoot Confederacy comprised of the Siksika, Piikani, Kainai. We acknowledge that this territory is home to the Shuswap Nations, Ktunaxa Nations, and Metis Nation of Alberta, Rockyview District 4. We acknowledge all Nations who live, work, and play, help us steward this land, and honour and celebrate this place. 

The Opportunity

The Marketing Officer, Events drives Banff Centre's event marketing, including ticketed and free events on campus. They are responsible for increasing awareness, driving demand, and generating attendance at Banff Centre's programming events. This includes events under our Banff Centre Presents banner, and events as part of our artistic programs.

Specific Accountabilities

Reporting to the Marketing Director, below are some key responsibilities:

  • Build and implement event marketing plans. This work involves strategic research, drafting and communicating plans, and campaign reporting.  Along with plan execution, working with designers, digital marketers, and content to produce campaign material. This work is dynamic across project management and creative writing.
  • Develop budgets for marketing plans and campaigns, materials and activities, track spending and provide reports.
  • Create, coordinate and distribute promotional materials and other assets for marketing. These materials include publications, signage, posters and flyers, advertisements, emails, digital and social media assets. This work includes engaging the local community directly, using materials as conversation starters.
  • Develop and maintain relevant contact databases for the successful implementation of marketing plans. This includes building email demand, along with local and event-specific communities to foster awareness and attendance.
  • Create and analyze data related to marketing initiatives, in collaboration with the digital marketing teammates who develop integrated marketing report structure.
  • Organize and maintain records and archives of all promotional material produced.
  • Show leadership in positioning and branding Banff Centre through implementing key messages and visual identity of Banff Centre, especially regarding event venues and experiences.

Qualification and Educational Requirements

  • 5+ years of related experience is required
  • Undergraduate degree or diploma in communications, marketing, public relations, or a related field.  
  • Experience with an arts, entertainment, or events marketing is required.
  • Experience with ticketed event marketing, event planning, destination marketing, post-secondary institutions and/or tour operators is an asset.
  • Thorough knowledge of event marketing practices and planning.
  • Exceptional customer service skills that focus on understanding the needs of clients, such as programs, services, and administrative areas. Excellent interpersonal communication
  • Highly motivated; self-starter with the ability to work under broad direction without close supervision
  • Extremely creative with a keen attention to detail
  • Strong organization and project management skills with ability to successfully manage multiple tasks and projects 
  • Strong copywriting skills
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing priorities and tasks
  • Budgeting experience
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite of products, email marketing, and familiarity with paid digital and CRM platform marketing.
  • A team player with excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Effective problem solver with the ability to seek collaborative and creative solutions
  • Bilingual (French and English) is an asset

Special Requirements

  • This position requires the candidate to be available to work a flexible, irregular schedule and weekends when required to attend performances or events. 

Employment Terms & Benefits

  • In accordance with CUPE 4318, this is a unionized, salaried support staff position, subject to a 6 month probation period. 
  • The annual salary for this position is between $56,388.80 and $59,196.80, depending on experience, based on working 40 hours per week.
  • The successful candidate will have access to a range of benefits through Alberta Blue Cross and will be eligible to participate in our defined benefit pension plan.
