Your Opportunity

We’re seeking an Intermediate Environmental Regulatory Specialist/Scientist to join our Environmental Assessment and Permitting team in Atlantic Canada, though individuals with additional experience will also be considered.

In this position, you will work closely with an experienced, multi‑ disciplinary team of environmental assessment (EA) practitioners, ecologists, archaeologists, and environmental scientists and engineers. Together, you will provide environmental regulatory and permitting support across a wide variety of industries in Atlantic Canada, including renewable energy, mining, and infrastructure projects.

This will be a full-time permanent position. The hiring process is ongoing, and applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Lead teams of technical, environmental, and engineering specialists to support the environmental assessment, application development, and permitting processes
  • Prepare and review environmental assessments and technical documents that support regulatory permitting
  • Prepare budgets, manage scope changes, establish schedules, and ensure that project work is carried out within agreed timeframes and on budget
  • Work directly with clients to provide strategic environmental advice and project management throughout all stages of a project’s lifecycle, including approval, construction, post-construction, and operational management within both provincial and federal regulatory frameworks
  • Contribute to business development activities, including proposals, pre-qualifications, and relationship building with existing and prospective clients
  • Promote a strong health and safety culture and actively participate in Stantec’s Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) Program

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Ability to work with initiative, professionalism, and confidentiality, multitask, and adapt to change in a very dynamic environment
  • Strong understanding of provincial and federal regulations, permitting requirements, and environmental assessment processes within Atlantic Canada
  • Demonstrated effective writing and communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to providing quality deliverables in a timely manner
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact across a broad range of audiences/technical backgrounds, including internal and external clients and regulatory agencies
  • Ability and desire to coach and mentor junior staff

Education and Experience

Master’s degree in environmental science, engineering, management, planning, or a related field, and a minimum of 8 years of environmental and regulatory-related experience is preferred, or

Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, engineering, management, planning, or a related field, and a minimum of 10 years of environmental and regulatory-related experience

Previous experience in consulting, and/or managing, or reviewing environmental assessments is preferred

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
