Agile Underwriting Solutions (Agile) has an exciting opportunity for a permanent, full-time Executive Underwriter, Casualty. This is a hybrid position based out of our Dartmouth office, however we are open to consider candidates anywhere in Canada. We are seeking an experienced underwriting professional with extensive technical expertise in casualty lines and a proven ability to manage complex risks while driving profitable growth.
Expected Compensation: The expected hiring range for this role is $82,400 to $103,000. Your rate of pay will be determined based on your individual qualifications and experience while considering internal equity.

The opportunity:
Step into a high-impact role as Executive Underwriter, Casualty, where your expertise will shape a dynamic portfolio of complex and specialty risks. You'll leverage deep technical knowledge and sound judgment to evaluate, structure, and price non-standard business while driving new production and profitable growth. In this role, you'll go beyond underwriting: building strong broker partnerships, influencing deal strategy, and contributing to the development of innovative casualty solutions aligned with Agile's evolving risk appetite, all within a fast-growing environment where your impact is immediate and visible.
In this role you will:
- Underwrite and manage a complex casualty portfolio (including Protective Services, Wrap-Up Liability, Wet Contractors, Snow Removal, and Liquor Liability), evaluating, selecting, negotiating, and pricing both standard and non-standard risks within authority
- Broker risks to O&A markets, leveraging strong relationships to secure optimal placement for complex or layered casualty accounts
- Analyze detailed risk information to determine acceptability, coverage structure, and pricing adequacy, particularly for high-hazard and specialty liability classes
- Integrate loss control, claims insights, and risk management practices into underwriting decisions to support disciplined risk selection and long-term account performance
- Support the development and enhancement of specialized casualty products and programs aligned with Agile's growth strategy and risk appetite
- Build and maintain strong broker relationships, acting as a trusted technical resource while educating partners to improve submission quality and alignment with target classes
- Monitor underwriting results and support team performance to achieve production targets, while collaborating across teams and participating in industry initiatives to drive best practices and business development
Here's what you bring:
- Bachelor's degree in a related discipline and CIP designation; FCIP or other advanced designation considered an asset
- 8 - 10 years of commercial underwriting experience, with a strong focus on casualty lines
- Expert-level technical underwriting, analytical, and critical thinking skills, with the ability to assess complex risks and make sound, timely decisions
- High attention to detail with the ability to efficiently navigate large volumes of complex information
- Strong time management, independence, and excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills with internal teams and external partners
