We're searching for a Director, National Insurance Marketing & Placement. Are you searching for new possibilities?

Westland Insurance Group Ltd. is growing, and we're looking for a strategic commercial insurance leader to elevate our national placement strategy as Director, National Insurance Marketing & Placement. This leadership role is responsible for guiding Westland's commercial marketing and placement strategy across Canada, strengthening insurer relationships, and ensuring consistent best practices for complex commercial submissions and negotiations.

Working closely with Account Executives, regional leadership teams, and insurer partners, you will support complex and high-value placements, provide strategic direction on market engagement, and ensure Westland continues to deliver competitive, client-focused insurance solutions.

This is a rare opportunity for a highly skilled Insurance Professional based in either our BC Head Office, or Toronto.

Expected Compensation: The expected hiring range for this role is $112,000 to $140,000 based on a 35-hour work week. Actual offered salary will depend on the successful candidate's qualifications and experience, as well as market conditions for the role, and internal equity.

Why we'll love you:

  • 7+ years of experience in commercial insurance marketing and placement, including complex accounts
  • Demonstrated experience negotiating with insurers and securing competitive coverage solutions
  • Strong understanding of commercial insurance products, underwriting practices, and market dynamics
  • Proven ability to build and maintain strong insurer relationships
  • Experience supporting or leading national or multi-regional placement strategies
  • Insurance Broker Level 2 License required
  • CIP or CRM designation preferred, or working toward
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and organizational skills
  • Ability to translate complex coverage and market considerations into clear guidance for internal stakeholders
  • High attention to detail and strong commitment to compliance and governance


Once here, you'll:

  • Lead and execute Westland's national commercial marketing and placement strategy
  • Establish best practices for submission quality, insurer engagement, and placement execution across regions
  • Provide strategic guidance on market approach, insurer selection, and negotiation tactics for complex placements
  • Develop and maintain strong national relationships with insurance carriers and strategic market partners
  • Support Account Executives in marketing complex, large, or hard-to-place commercial risks
  • Provide feedback and guidance to improve submission quality and alignment with insurer expectations
  • Assist with negotiating coverage terms, pricing, and limits to deliver optimal client solutions
  • Monitor market conditions, capacity shifts, pricing trends, and emerging risks and share insights across the organization
  • Partner with program leadership to support program business placement and specialized insurance solutions
  • Ensure placement activities comply with regulatory requirements, insurer guidelines, and internal policies
  • Collaborate with Account Executives, regional leadership, and senior management to ensure seamless placement execution
  • Act as a subject matter expert for marketing and placement strategies across the organization
  • Mentor team members and share insights on insurer relationships and negotiation strategies
