Career Opportunity

TTC’s Plant Maintenance Department has an exciting opportunity for an architectural professional looking to apply their expertise to a diverse range of construction and maintenance projects related to transportation facilities.  

What You Will Do

You will provide architectural design expertise to support the review and acceptance of major TTC capital projects including stations, buildings, plant facilities, and equipment.  


You will evaluate finishes and materials with a lens to long life expectancy, ease of maintenance, and future replacement or repairs.  As an architectural subject matter expert, you will also provide technical support to front-line maintenance teams.

 

The successful incumbent will conduct reviews of architectural designs for capital projects, which have been prepared by TTC design teams or external consultants.
    

You will prioritize, delegate and review design submissions to ensure maintainability, as well as compliance with established standards and regulatory requirements.
    

You will perform site inspections and walkthroughs, prepare deficiency reports, participate in asset handover processes as construction nears completion.
    

You will evaluate proposals for alternative materials, products and methods.
    

You will applying TTC Design Manuals, Standard and Directive Drawings and recommends revisions as appropriate.

 

Additionally, you will participate in the TTC's Customer Service Ambassador Program.  You promote a respectful work and service environment that supports diversity, inclusion, and is free from harassment and discrimination. You provide leadership in the development and implementation of inclusive and accessible policies, programs and/or services for employees and customers in accordance with TTC’s commitments and obligations under the Ontario Human Rights Code (OHRC) and Related Orders, the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), and TTC’s policies.

What Qualifications Do You Bring?

  • Completion of a post-secondary college diploma or university degree  in a related discipline (i.e. Architecture) or a combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent.
  • Licensure with OAA as an Architect or with the OAAAS as an Architectural Technologist is an asset.
  • Experience in the architectural design of transportation infrastructure, industrial facilities and/or office buildings.
  • Prior experience supporting architectural activities on construction projects, including on-site experience.
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal), supported by sound diplomacy and negotiation skills.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization abilities.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of computer applications and software related to the work, including CAD.
  • Knowledge of the various maintenance functions carried out by the Plant Maintenance department.
  • Good knowledge of the applicable codes/practices/standards (e.g. Ontario Building Code, Ontario Fire Code, TTC standards, CSA standards, OH&S Act, Underwriters Laboratories of Canada, Ministry of Labour, Elevator Safety Code and etc.), and ability to quickly attain knowledge of TTC Design Manuals, Standards and Directive Drawings.
