Purpose
Contributes to the overall success of the development of analytical assets and patterns serving International Banking Analytics. The Specialist for Data Engineering will be responsible for using established data patterns for collecting, managing, and converting raw data into viable insights and models for business intelligence and advanced analytics applications consumption. Ensures all activities conducted are following governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures.
Accountabilities
- Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
- Participate in data engineering and transformation design to ensure highly scalable, extensible, and performant data pipelines.
- Supports the implementation of data assets across multiple international teams and business lines
- Hands on development supporting Analytical workloads for On-prem and Cloud environments, to generate scalable data assets across Scotiabank international markets
- Functions as a member of an agile team and helps drive consistent development practices, tools usage, common components, and patterns.
- Collaborates and supports analytic teams to proactively build and improve existing operating models, increasing reliability and stability of data platforms for end users in accordance with stablished engineering practices and automation.
- Contribute to data delivery for some of highly visible and critical projects across bank
- Knowledge with spark, SQL, docker, airflow, git, Kubernetes, infrastructure-as-code
- Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
- Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct, and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Education / Experience / Other Information (include only those that are specific to the role)
- Experience working as a junior Data Engineer or Technical Business Analyst.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Engineering, or related field or relevant experience.
- Cloud computing knowledge, Data Quality and Governance is a plus.
- Knowledge with SQL, git, docker, apache airflow, infrastructure-as-code, apache spark
- Experience with Python
Assets
- Experience with Big Data and Cloud Technologies (Python, Apache Airflow , etc)
- Experience with GitHub, JIRA , and agile teams
- Experience working in a financial institution is a nice to have
- Power BI knowledge is a nice to have (Data consumption)
- Working in a product team (product management) is a nice to have
- English level (at least B1)
