Adecco is currently hiring a full-time Bridge Design Engineer to join a leading transportation and infrastructure organization. This is an exciting opportunity for a Professional Engineer with a passion for structural design, project management, and the development of critical railway infrastructure.

In this role, you will be responsible for the design, review, and delivery of bridge projects across a large transportation network. You will work closely with consultants, project teams, and field personnel to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with engineering standards and industry best practices.

Responsibilities:

Bridge Design & Engineering

  • Design railway bridge structures and related infrastructure projects

  • Prepare preliminary and detailed designs for steel, concrete, and timber bridge structures

  • Ensure designs comply with applicable engineering standards, regulations, and industry best practices

  • Develop fabrication specifications, technical drawings, and construction documentation

  • Provide technical expertise throughout the project lifecycle

Project Management & Delivery

  • Coordinate and oversee consulting engineers and external design partners

  • Prepare project budgets, schedules, cost estimates, and forecasting reports

  • Support construction activities by resolving technical issues and responding to design-related inquiries

  • Manage outsourced engineering services and monitor contract performance

  • Review consultant deliverables for quality, compliance, and accuracy

Safety & Compliance

  • Verify that engineering work complies with approved drawings, specifications, and safety requirements

  • Participate in construction and safety audits

  • Review bridge inspection reports and support asset integrity initiatives

  • Promote strong safety practices throughout project planning and execution

Technical Leadership & Development

  • Provide engineering support and guidance to field teams and internal stakeholders

  • Participate in site visits, inspections, and project reviews

  • Support the development and mentoring of junior engineers and interns

  • Stay current on railway engineering practices, structural design standards, and emerging technologies

  • Participate in professional development activities and maintain engineering licensure requirements

Qualifications and Skills:

·       Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering

·       Professional Engineer designation (P.Eng.) or eligibility to obtain licensure

·       Minimum 3 years of engineering experience, including at least 2 years of bridge design experience

·       Experience working with:

o   Railway companies

o   Structural engineering consulting firms

o   Infrastructure engineering organizations

·       Valid driver's license

·       Master's Degree in Civil Engineering

·       Specialization in Structural Engineering

·       Professional Structural Engineer (SE) designation

·       Railway engineering experience

·       Knowledge of railway operating rules and standards

·       Strong understanding of:

o   Structural engineering principles

o   Bridge design

o   Retaining structures

o   Foundations

o   Infrastructure asset management

·       Knowledge of railway bridge inspection and maintenance practices

·       Familiarity with AREMA standards and North American structural design codes

·       Technical report writing and engineering documentation skills

·       Proficiency with:

o   AutoCAD

o   SAP

o   Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

·       Knowledge of Microsoft Project, Access, MathCAD, and fall protection standards is considered an asset

·       Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities

·       Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills

·       Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines

·       Leadership and mentoring capabilities

·       Commitment to safety and engineering excellence

·       Innovative mindset with a focus on continuous improvement

·       Ability to perform both office-based and field-based work

·       Must be legally eligible to work, and reside in Canada
