COMMUNITY MENTAL HEALTH WORKER

 

Hours of work: Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm with the expectation you may work an occasional evening or weekend. Schedule is subject to change depending on program needs.

Rate of Pay: $28.74- $33.14(Starting salary will be determined by factors such as relevant experience, qualifications, internal equity, and market conditions)

This opportunity is with our Good Shepherd – HOMES CHO Program

How You Will Make an Impact

The HOMES program provides supportive housing to persons who have been homeless and are living with a mental illness. HOMES – Community Homes for Opportunity (CHO) Team members support residents on-site and in the community throughout Hamilton and the Niagara Region to reach personal goals and to have a satisfying and meaningful life in the community.

  • Assessment, planning, crisis prevention and intervention, supportive counselling, education, advocacy, conflict resolution between tenants and landlords, facilitating social interaction and community integration, and linkages with other community services
  • Provide primary support to individuals and support their recovery planning
  • Most work is done in the community and in tenant apartments, with constant driving required
  • Must be willing and able to assist in a hands-on capacity with tenants
  • Time management skills are necessary in a high energy, changing environment
  • Individual and team problem-solving capability is essential
  • Pro-active approach to service provision

What You'll Bring to Our Team

  • Primary case management and community development skills acquired through a post-secondary education in social work, registered practical nurse or other human service field
  • Minimum of five years' experience in mental health in a community-based setting
  • Candidates who have worked in an outreach/mobile atmosphere preferred
  • Knowledge of community resources, the forensic system and the social and environmental determinants of health
  • Demonstrated cultural sensitivity
  • Must have recovery orientation and consumer-driven style of practice
  • Must have a valid driver's licence. Must be willing to use personal vehicle at work and acquire appropriate insurance
  • Committed to anti-racist/anti-oppressive practice and to the mission and values of Good Shepherd Centres
  • Fluency in a language in addition to English is an asset
  • Observe all health and safety rules and work in compliance with the provisions of the occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations
