Clinical Research Project Coordinator Assistant, CALIPER Program - Pediatric Laboratory Medicine
About the CALIPER Program
The CALIPER (Canadian Laboratory Initiative on Pediatric Reference Intervals) program is an internationally recognized research initiative dedicated to establishing comprehensive pediatric reference intervals for clinical laboratory tests. These reference intervals are essential for accurate interpretation of laboratory results and improved diagnosis and monitoring of disease in children and adolescents.
Since its inception, CALIPER has generated one of the world's largest pediatric reference interval databases and has significantly influenced laboratory medicine practice globally.
The program continues to expand through innovative research studies, international collaborations, and development of digital clinical tools.

Position Overview
The CALIPER program is seeking a highly motivated Clinical Research Project Coordinator Assistant (CRPCA) to support the coordination and execution of CALIPER research studies and associated projects.
Working closely with the Program Head and multidisciplinary research team, the CRPA will play a central role in clinical research administration, regulatory compliance, and study documentation, while also contributing to participant recruitment, laboratory activities, and data management.
This position is ideal for candidates with strong experience in clinical research coordination and regulatory processes, and offers the opportunity to contribute to impactful pediatric research in a leading academic environment.
Here's What You'll Get To Do:
Clinical Research Administration & Regulatory Compliance (Primary Responsibility)
- Lead and manage all aspects of research study administration and regulatory documentation
- Prepare, review, and submit Research Ethics Board (REB) applications, amendments, and renewals
- Develop, maintain, and ensure compliance with study protocols, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and regulatory documents
- Ensure adherence to institutional policies, Good Clinical Practice (GCP), and regulatory requirements
- Oversee REDCap database design, data entry, and quality assurance processes
- Maintain accurate and secure participant records and study documentation
- Coordinate study audits, monitoring activities, and regulatory inspections
- Track study progress, timelines, and reporting requirements
- Liaise with internal stakeholders, external collaborators, and industry partners
- Record and circulate meeting minutes and maintain study communication records
Community Engagement & Participant Recruitment
- Plan and implement recruitment strategies across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA)
- Establish partnerships with community organizations including schools, pediatric clinics, community centres, and daycare centres
- Develop recruitment materials and outreach strategies
- Deliver presentations to community stakeholders and participants
- Coordinate and manage community clinic days
- Monitor participant safety and report adverse events to the Principal Investigator
Research Coordination & Team Support
- Coordinate day-to-day research study operations and timelines
- Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers and student trainees
- Assist with hiring and supervision of research staff
- Coordinate scheduling of staff (e.g., phlebotomists) for clinic days
Laboratory Support
- Perform laboratory procedures including sample processing and storage
- Support reference interval studies and validation experiments
- Maintain laboratory equipment and sample inventory
- Prepare and ship biological samples for analysis
Data Management & Scientific Activities
- Maintain and update the CALIPER database and mobile application
- Perform statistical analyses and assist with data interpretation
- Contribute to manuscripts, abstracts, and scientific presentations
Here's What You'll Need:
Education
- BSc or MSc in health sciences, biomedical sciences, public health, or a related field required
Certification
- Certified Clinical Research Coordinator (CCRC) designation required
Experience
- Strong experience in clinical research administration, regulatory processes, and REB submissions
- Experience in clinical research coordination or project management
- Experience in community outreach and participant recruitment preferred
- Experience working with children and families
Skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational and project management abilities
- Strong understanding of GCP and regulatory requirements
- Experience with REDCap or similar research databases
- Familiarity with statistical software (e.g., R, SPSS)
- High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities
- Strong leadership and teamwork skills
Additional Requirements
- Ability to travel within the Greater Toronto Area
- Commitment to institutional policies and procedures
Employment Type: Full-time 12 months contract, renewable annually up to five years (subject to funding and performance)
