A career as a Chief Legal Counsel within the Client Relationship Advisory and Complaints team – Legal Affairs, Capital Markets and Wealth Management at National Bank means acting as a strategic legal partner to business teams. This role allows you to have a tangible impact on the organization through your legal expertise, analytical skills, and experience managing complex and sensitive matters related to the securities industry.

In an environment marked by complex legal and regulatory issues, delicate client situations, and constantly evolving compliance requirements, you help guide key decisions and contribute to the consistent and sustainable evolution of practices.

Your role
  • Lead cross-functional projects and initiatives related to issues arising from regulatory complaints, advisory support activities, and the evolution of the regulatory framework, and act as a key subject-matter expert.
  • Play a central role in the handling of sensitive, complex, or strategic regulatory complaints by guiding decision-making, risk mitigation strategies, and leading associated interventions.
  • Advise senior management and collaborate with internal partners to ensure an integrated and consistent approach to identifying, analyzing, and resolving legal, regulatory, financial, or reputational issues, while promoting well-adapted solutions.
  • Contribute to the evolution of practices, processes, tools, and training related to complaint and risk management, with a view to strengthening organizational consistency, supporting operational efficiency, and optimizing interventions and the client experience.
  • Identify emerging legal and regulatory issues, anticipate their impacts, and recommend strategic directions aligned with the priorities of the Wealth Management sector.
Your team
Within the Legal Affairs – Capital Markets and Wealth Management sector, you will be part of a large team of over 30 colleagues and will report to the Assistant Vice President, Client Relationship and Advisory Services. The team is recognized for its professional rigor, collaborative spirit, and strong commitment to service excellence.

Prerequisites
  • Bachelor’s degree in Law and 7 to 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Member in good standing of the Barreau du Québec.
  • Demonstrated experience providing strategic advisory support to senior leaders, managers, or business partners, including the proposal of innovative solutions, on significant issues.
  • Proven ability to influence key decisions through well-structured legal recommendations tailored to complex or sensitive matters.
  • Excellent analytical, drafting, and written and verbal communication skills.
