Sobeys is full of exciting opportunities, and we are always looking for bright new talent to join our team! We currently have a full-time opportunity for an Accountant to join our Finance team.
Here’s where you’ll be focusing:
- Accurately prepare and post entries and account for transactions in the general ledger and fixed asset subledger.
- Prepare and review working papers that support account balances, investigate errors, and facilitate corrections
- Complete period-end close processes, controls, and procedures
- Reconcile the balance in fixed asset subledger to the GL.
- Review and update fixed asset schedules for financial statement note disclosure purposes
- Track project expenditure and ensure proper reclassification in accordance with IFRS and fixed asset policy (capital vs expense)
- Ensure compliance with CEO/CFO Certification requirements.
- Participate in the internal and external audit requests.
- Collaborate with various stakeholders and provide recommendations that are in accordance with the fixed asset policy and IFRS
- With a process improvement mindset, propose innovative ideas
- Prepare various analytical and ad-hoc reports.
What you have to offer:
- University Degree and Accounting Designation CPA (or in the process of obtaining)
- 2+ years of accounting experience
- Knowledge of accounting standards (IFRS)
- Strong communication skills (Both oral and written)
- Excellent time management skills to meet time-sensitive deadlines
- Solid analytical and problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of SAP preferred.
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills (particularly Excel)
