The opportunity

Reporting to the Director – Strategic Risk, Corporate Actuarial, the successful candidate will play a key role in leading and executing risk management initiatives related to climate perils and the impact of climate change on the company’s operations. This role combines advanced analytical work with strategic thinking, solution design, and cross‑functional influence.

What you Bring

  • Help lead the monitoring and assessment of emerging catastrophe and climate‑related risks impacting the company’s portfolio, capital position, and long‑term strategy.
  • Drive research and thought leadership on climate‑related hazards and human‑driven factors (e.g., urbanization, mitigation, land‑use change), evaluating their impact on exposure, vulnerability, and insured loss outcomes.
  • Design, build, and interpret advanced analytical workflows using geospatial and climate datasets, leveraging programming languages (e.g., Python, R) and spatial analysis tools (e.g., GIS platforms) to generate decision‑ready insights.
  • Lead the development, calibration, validation, and ongoing enhancement of catastrophe and climate risk models, ensuring methodological soundness and alignment with internal risk frameworks and business needs.
  • Translate complex analytical findings into clear, actionable recommendations, presenting results through concise written deliverables, executive‑level presentations, and dashboards tailored to senior leadership and non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Partner closely with actuarial teams (Reserving, Capital, Planning) and enterprise functions (Finance, Reinsurance, ERM) to shape risk perspectives, inform strategic decisions, and respond to ad‑hoc risk‑related questions.
  • Identify and champion improvements to data, processes, and analytical approaches, helping to evolve the team’s capabilities and ensure scalable, efficient, and consistent risk analysis.
  • Provide informal leadership and oversight, including peer review of analyses, coaching of junior team members, and contributing to a collaborative, high‑performing, and learning‑oriented team culture.
  • Contribute to the strategic direction of the risk agenda, proactively identifying new areas of focus and framing analytical questions that anticipate future business and regulatory needs.

What you Bring

  • University degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related quantitative discipline.
  • Completion of at least five CAS exams (or equivalent actuarial credentials) and typically 3+ years of actuarial or related risk analytics experience within the insurance industry.
  • Advanced programming and analytical skills, particularly in Python (e.g., pandas, NumPy, SciPy, scikit‑learn) and/or R, with the ability to design production‑quality analytical solutions.
  • Strong experience working with large, complex, and imperfect datasets, including climate, exposure, and socioeconomic data, with a disciplined approach to validation and quality control.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently lead projects, make sound analytical judgments, and balance technical rigor with practical business considerations.
  • Proven track record of influencing stakeholders and collaborating effectively across functions in a matrixed environment.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and prioritization skills, with the ability to operate confidently in a fast‑paced, ambiguous setting.
  • A strong sense of ownership and accountability, coupled with intellectual curiosity, strategic thinking, and a desire to translate analysis into measurable business impact.
  • Polished presentation and storytelling skills, capable of engaging both technical audiences and senior leaders.
