Adecco is currently hiring a full-time Supervisor, Mechanical – Locomotive to oversee daily terminal operations and lead a unionized workforce in a fast-paced, 24/7 environment. This role is responsible for ensuring locomotive inspection, maintenance, and repair activities are completed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with operational targets.
In this position you will play a critical role in driving locomotive availability, reliability, and dwell performance, while supporting safe work practices and operational excellence.

Responsibilities:
Safety & Compliance
Promote and enforce a strong safety culture through coaching, training, and leadership
Monitor compliance through efficiency testing, audits, and safety walkabouts
Investigate locomotive failures and implement corrective actions
Develop, implement, and audit standard operating procedures (SOPs)
Respond promptly to safety concerns and incidents
Support onboarding, training, and development of employees
Ensure compliance with Performance Monitoring Compliance Rules (PMRC)
Participate in safety committees such as WLJAC
Operations & Decision Making
Lead day-to-day operations, ensuring timely inspections, repairs, and maintenance
Analyze performance data to improve fleet reliability and efficiency
Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on locomotive maintenance and repair decisions
Respond to operational issues and delegate appropriate corrective actions
Coordinate locomotive routing, assembly, and deployment as required
Planning & Execution
Prioritize repairs to reduce locomotive dwell time and improve availability
Ensure adherence to preventative maintenance schedules
Optimize workforce productivity, attendance, and labour costs
Align maintenance activities with the service plan and operational targets
Leadership & Team Management
Supervise and lead a unionized workforce in a 24/7 operation
Communicate company goals, expectations, and policies clearly
Evaluate employee performance and provide coaching, feedback, and recognition
Conduct investigations and administer discipline in line with the collective agreement
Approve payroll, time-off requests, and oversee administrative functions
Coordinate train operations including makeup, breakup, and switching activities
Assign locomotives to optimize usage based on tonnage and scheduling
Qualifications and Skills:
· High School Diploma or GED equivalent
· Valid Driver’s License
· Experience working in mechanical and/or electrical environments
· Strong leadership and decision-making skills
· Experience supervising unionized and non-unionized employees
· Experience in railroad mechanical operations or similar industries
· Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
· Technician/Technologist diploma in a related field
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word)
· Experience with systems such as SAP, SRS, PAP, RTBI, DataCity, LMS
· Strong understanding of locomotive systems, inspection, and repair practices
· Knowledge of transportation regulations (Transport Canada, FRA)
· Strong commitment to safety and compliance
· Effective communication and leadership skills
· Ability to analyze data and apply critical thinking
· Collaborative mindset with strong team leadership abilities
· Results-driven with a focus on efficiency and continuous improvement
· Bilingual (English/French) is considered an asset
· Must be legally eligible to work, and reside in Canada

· Rotating shifts covering 24/7 operations
· Exposure to varying weather and industrial conditions
· Fast-paced role requiring the ability to manage pressure, meet deadlines, and adapt quickly
