Job Summary
The Library of Lived Experience: Neurodevelopmental Conditions in Childhood & Adolescence is a project being undertaken by Dr. Daniel Goldowitz, Senior Scientist at UBC’s Centre for Molecular Medicine and Therapeutics (CMMT) at BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute.
The Library of Lived Experience is a digital collection that centers the voices of individuals with neurodevelopmental conditions, giving their narratives equal weight to clinical and academic sources. Curated by those with lived experience, the library will feature a range of materials—from research studies to personal stories and creative works—highlighting diverse and underserved communities. This hourly position will support the initiative by assisting with community consultations and helping to identify key resources.
Organizational Status
This position will report to the Project Coordinator who receives direction from the PI, Dr. Daniel Goldowitz.
Work Performed
Assist in building and organizing the digital library, including file management and cataloguing resources
Assist in collecting, reviewing, and curating testimonies and materials from individuals with lived experience
Assists with conducting literature and internet searches to gather diverse and relevant content
Supports outreach efforts to engage potential contributors and participants
Help with consultations, follow-ups, and translating feedback into usable resources
Attend virtual meetings, take minutes, and support follow-up on action items
Assist in maintaining databases of contacts and contributors
Assist in setting project timelines and tracking progress
Consequence of Error/Judgement
Errors in judgment or execution of duties could compromise the integrity of the research, lead to loss of data, negatively impact study participants, or result in financial loss.
Supervision Received
Works closely with the PI and PC with direction, but also with opportunity for independent, self-directed effort. The hire will engage in weekly meetings with the PI and PC to both provide and receive feedback, and to have the opportunity to address any concerns that may arise. The hire will be supported and mentored throughout their work term and encouraged to suggest directions for their learning in ways that support their goals.

Minimum Qualifications
High school graduation or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Resourceful, adaptable, flexible, highly organized, able to think creatively and work collaboratively
• Self-directed and also able to work independently, completing tasks without daily oversight
• Familiarity with online research techniques using keyword searches and evaluating sources
• Adept at using video-conferencing and MS Office
• Excellent oral and written communication skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
• High level of awareness of ethical conduct and privacy/confidentiality in healthcare
• Background in Library, Archival, and Information Studies would be beneficial
• Experience working with children, youth and families would be valuable, especially with children with neurodevelopmental conditions and their parents
