Highlights of the job

We are hiring a full-time, permanent Technologist, Transmission Assets position working out of Edmonton, AB.

 

We are seeking a skilled Engineering Technologist to join our Transmission Asset Management team. This role plays a key part in maintaining Substation Protection, Control & SCADA standards and ensuring compliance with Alberta Reliability Standards.

 

This position may be eligible for EPCOR’s hybrid work program.

What you’d be responsible for

  • Support development of Substation Protection, Control & SCADA (Asset Management) plans and strategies
  • Analyze performance issues and help implement continuous improvement initiatives for productivity, quality, and documentation processes
  • Contribute to the development, implementation, and review of Substation Standards Compliance processes
  • Maintain Protection, Control & SCADA asset management documentation (including IVARA asset and maintenance records)
  • Ensure substation compliance documentation meets the Alberta Reliability Standards
  • Support Protection & Control system modelling to align with AESO standards and provincial regulations
  • Contribute to investigations of P&C system performance, such as relay failures and system events
  • Assist with SCADA & Communications system investigations involving device or communication failures
  • Support regulatory activities, including audits and rate applications
  • Demonstrate strong performance, accountability, safety focus, and innovation in day‑to‑day work

What’s required to be successful

  • Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology from a recognized post-secondary institute, and registration, or eligibility to register, as a technologist with A.S.E.T.
  • 7+ years of experience in Transmission Substation Protection & Control and/or SCADA applications
  • In depth knowledge of IEEE and electrical utility standards, including AESO standards and provincial regulations
  • Expertise in Protection & Control applications and use of related relay programming software
  • Expertise in computer database programs, CAD applications (MicroStation, AutoCAD) and Microsoft Office
  • Familiarity with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (IVARA)

As our best candidate, you have the capability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and shift priorities with ease. In addition, you possess strong analytical skills, exemplary communication skills, and have the ability to effectively work with cross-functional teams.

Wage: Starting at $54.92 per hour (Final Wage and Step will be determined at the time of selection and is based on a combination of factors as outlined in the collective agreement)

Hours of work: 75 hours biweekly
