In this role, you will provide technical and engineering support to the production, operations, and maintenance teams, while developing preventative maintenance (PM) programs and supporting day-to-day troubleshooting and corrective actions.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Seven years of experience in E&I maintenance/reliability engineering within the mining industry / industrial operating areas including mining mobile equipment, PLCs, LV/MV VFDs and motor control systems

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering

  • Registered or eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientist of Alberta (APEGA)

  • Demonstrated experience in electrical troubleshooting and maintenance of power conversion equipment at heavy mobile equipment including Komatsu 980E, P&H 4100

  • Knowledge of design, maintenance, testing and commissioning of electrical equipment as per IEEE, CSA, NFPA and NETA standards

  • Experience supporting Management of Change (MOC) and incident investigation processes, with an understanding of systems such as SAP, GE APM, and Enablon.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical support to operations and maintenance during troubleshooting and incident investigations for all mine and tailings electrical equipment.

  • Participate in production unit meetings, investigate and resolve threats to equipment availability

  • Support Mine Planning for power requirements and interface with T&D and project team for development.

  • Complete Electrical engineering work packages for equipment reliability improvements, ensuring compliance with standards

  • Analyze equipment data to develop failure reports, causal analysis, and corrective actions

  • Lead technical excellence through active participation in Suncor regional technical forums and share lessons learned.

  • Support small capital and expense projects that are primarily Electrical-focused (mobile equipment upgrade, motor upgrades, VFD replacements, etc.)

  • Ensure environmental and regulatory compliance of Electrical equipment and infrastructure to meet OH&S and M421 requirements.

  • Experience with ETAP for review and recommendations on protection coordination studies, arc flash studies and motor starting studies.

Location and other Key Details:

  • You will work out of our Fort Hills site office North of Fort McMurray, Alberta on a FIFO (Fly-in Fly-out) from Calgary or Edmonton or BIBO (Bus-in-Bus-out) for Fort McMurray residents

  • This will be 4X3 shift working for 40 hours from Monday – Thursday based in Camp at Fort Hills site

  • Occasional extended shift or remote support would be required to meet business needs during critical planned and unplanned events

  • Our maintenance engineering roles follow internal compensation guidelines, and the pay band will generally be based on years of experience and scope of work
