Hamilton, ON

McMaster University is located on the traditional territories of the Haudenosaunee and Mississauga Nations, and within the lands protected by the Dish with One Spoon wampum agreement.

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in the Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine, Faculty of Health Sciences at McMaster University has an exciting opportunity for two (2) full-time generalist Obstetrician/Gynecologists at West Lincoln Memorial Hospital (WLMH).

The successful candidates will join the staff at WLMH in providing care for low-risk pregnancies, gynecological care, and high-volume gynecological surgery. The Obstetrician/Gynecologists also provide consultant support for a large group of family physicians and midwives who provide primary care to the community. These are full-time faculty positions for a period of three years (renewable). Academic rank will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience.

WLMH has completed the process of redevelopment, with the brand-new facility now open. The hospital has a robust maternal and newborn program with 24/7 hospitalist midwife support. Additionally, the new hospital has doubled the previous operative capacity and includes a transition to a Labor/Birth/Recovery/Post-partum (LBRP) model of care.

Qualifications

Interested applicants must have their FRCSC in OBGYN, a commitment and demonstrated ability to teach medical trainees, and be licensed (or eligible for a license) to practice in Ontario. Applicants must also satisfy the credentialing requirements of Hamilton Health Sciences. A Masters level qualification or a commitment to complete such will be an asset.

How to apply

Interested applicants should apply through the McMaster Career Opportunities page, submitting:

  • A copy of their curriculum vitae
  • A letter of intent which includes a brief statement on education/teaching, and a statement of research interests. Applicants are invited to describe the impact that any career interruptions may have had on research, academic, and/or clinical scholarly productivity, if applicable.
  • A brief statement describing any contributions made or planned in relation to advancing equity, diversity and inclusion or inclusive excellence in teaching, research or service within higher education, community-based or other profession settings (2-page maximum).
  • In addition, please provide the names of three professional referees. Note: letters of reference are not required and will not be reviewed at the application stage; the Department will request letters of recommendation from referees at later stages of the search process.

All qualified applicants are encouraged to apply; however, Canadian citizens and permanent residents will be considered first for this position. To comply with the Government of Canada’s reporting requirements, the University is obliged to gather information about applicants’ status as either Permanent Residents of Canada or Canadian citizens. Applicants need not identify their country of origin or current citizenship; however, all applications must include one of the following statements: “Yes, I am a citizen or permanent resident of Canada” or “No, I am not a citizen or permanent resident of Canada”.

To apply, please submit online via the Mosaic Career Opportunities page, located at https://careers.mcmaster.ca/. addressing your letter to:

Dr. Bryon DeFrance, Chief of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at defrance@mcmaster.ca;, Dr. Andrea Mosher, Site Lead WLMH, Obstetrics and Gynecology at moshera@mcmaster.ca and Dr. Jon Barrett, Chair, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at jon.barrett@mcmaster.ca by March 31, 2026.

We would like to thank all who apply, but only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
