FACULTY of Health and Social Development

School of Social Work

The School of Social Work at the University of British Columbia, Okanagan Campus, invites applications for a 3-year full-time lecturer position in Social Work with an expected start date of July 1, 2026, or a mutually agreed time.

The School of Social Work is a clinically focused, graduate program thus we seek applicants with a strong record of clinical social work practice in addition to university teaching experience (preferably at the graduate level). The successful applicant must hold a Master’s of Social Work degree and be eligible for registration with the BC College of Social Workers upon hire. The School’s MSW program consists of two tracks: a full time one year Advanced Track for students with an undergraduate social work degree and a full time two-year Foundational Track for students with a non-social work degree. The successful candidate will be expected to teach seven courses over the 12-month period, with a minimum of one of these being taught in the summer term and to participate in one School of Social Work committee.  While this is primarily a teaching position, lecturers are also expected to participate fully in the affairs of their departments and may fulfill service obligations to the University and community.

Lecturer positions are appointments without review (i.e., non-tenure track) with the possibility of renewal for successive terms, subject to availability of funding and demonstration of excellence in teaching in accordance with the Collective Agreement between UBC and the UBC Faculty Association.

UBC is one of the world’s leading universities, and is consistently ranked in the top 40. The university has two distinct campuses, one in Vancouver and one in Kelowna. UBC’s Okanagan campus, situated in the heart of the Okanagan Valley, one of the most scenic regions in Canada, offers an intimate learning environment and excellent opportunities for regional, national, and international scholarly activities. Information about the surrounding community can be found at: https://hr.ubc.ca/careers-and-job-postings/relocation-services/relocating-kelowna.

2. A statement of your clinical social work practice and teaching experience

3. An up-to-date curriculum vitae listing the following:

  • Education

  • University-level teaching and related experience

4. Names of three (3) referees

For more information, applicants can contact: Dr. Judy Gillespie, Director, School of Social Work at judy.gillespie@ubc.ca or Cecilia Salazar, Administrative Assistant at cecilia.salazar@ubc.ca

Closing date for applications is March 15th, 2026. All positions are subject to budgetary approval. All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadians and permanent residents will be given priority.
