Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP)

Home / Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP)

The Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP) is a defined benefit pension plan that helps Ontario’s healthcare workers build the foundation for a financially secure retirement. HOOPP serves Ontario’s hospital and community-based healthcare sector, with more than 620 participating employers and more than 420,000 active, deferred and retired members. Our membership includes nurses, medical technicians, food services staff, housekeeping staff and many others who provide valued healthcare services. Since 1960, HOOPP’s goal has been to deliver on its pension promise to members. This has been supported by strong Plan management, solid investment performance and a liability-driven investment approach.

Commitment to diversity

At HOOPP, equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) are integral to cultivating a positive culture. Through intentional and proactive commitment and continuous improvement, we are working towards integrating EDI into all that we do. We believe that attracting and retaining the best talent, who reflect the diversity of our communities, is essential to our success. This is an important part of our EDI strategy. Our commitment to our members is supported by diverse and value-driven employees. We are always looking to enhance our team by hiring passionate and forward-thinking people. We’re not just looking for the most qualified person, we’re looking for someone who is interested in making a real difference in the lives of our members. To do so, we lead with compassion, invest in our people and embrace innovation. Employee resource groups are central to EDI at HOOPP. As one of our five current groups, Out and Proud enables and promotes a safe, inclusive and thriving space for our LGBTQ+ employees and allies. Made up of multiple intersecting identities, Out and Proud works with HOOPP’s executive and management teams to elevate the voices of our LGBTQ+ community. Together, they empower and support everyone to bring their authentic selves to work, educate on issues related to LGBTQ+ and intersecting experiences, and champion diversity and inclusion.

Vision for the future

Our EDI vision for the future is one where HOOPP is a leader in the community and industry in providing financial security to its members through its commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion. We value our partnership with Pride at Work Canada, and we uphold this by actively working to create an inclusive and equitable culture, where we embrace our differences and where every individual can achieve their full potential.
