Adecco is actively seeking an Substation Engineer (Phasor Engineering) to join our client’s team in Calgary, AB. This is a full-time position offering a competitive salary of $130,000–$170,000 per year. The successful candidate will lead substation design projects, perform engineering studies, interface with multidisciplinary teams, and mentor junior engineers.
  • Pay Rate: $130k-$170k/year.

Responsibilities:  
  • Design and authenticate outdoor substation packages (ampacity diagrams, layouts, plot plans, bus elevations, grounding, control & power cable layouts, control building electrical design) for 25kV–240kV systems.
  • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines to ensure overall design compliance.
  • Perform calculations and studies: grounding, lightning, lighting, AC/DC load studies, transformer & battery sizing, insulation coordination, rigid bus studies.
  • Conduct MV cable ampacity calculations using CYMCAP.
  • Develop equipment and apparatus specifications aligned with project requirements.
  • Review vendor documentation and drawings for constructability, operability, and compliance.
  • Maintain bills of materials for substation outdoor installations.
  • Review engineered outputs to confirm adherence to project scope and client requirements.
  • Support site construction and commissioning activities as needed.
  • Collect, interpret, and organize engineering and vendor data for projects.
  • Resolve technical and project issues by interfacing with senior personnel.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide guidance on design practices.
  • Contribute to maintaining and updating internal engineering standards and work practices.
Requirements:  
  • Legal eligibility to work and reside in Canada.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized institute.
  • Eligible for registration with APEGA.
  • 6–10 years’ experience in electrical substation design.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Solid knowledge of electrical theory, mathematics, and Canadian codes (CEC, CSA, AEUC, OESC).
  • Excellent analytical, risk assessment, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Extreme attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
