The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Plant Engineer to join our team in Maintenance Planning/Control Department at the Port Colborne Refinery.

 

This is a permanent onsite position. The work schedule is Monday to Friday, dayshift.

 

The Plant Engineer is responsible for on-site technical maintenance support, limited design scope support, engineering screening/scoping, repair scopes of work and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives at the site(s) they support.

 

Additionally, in this position you will:

  • Failure Prevention and Response: Provide on-site technical support to prevent or mitigate equipment failures and return assets to running condition quickly with reduced likelihood of reoccurrence. Lead technical support for significant equipment failures.
  • Engineering Assessments and Integrity: Conduct/coordinate field assessments and integrity evaluations to ensure assets run defect-free and provide recommendations for improvement.
  • Continuous Improvement: Support operations and execution teams in Continuous Improvement Projects, applying engineered solutions and Vale standards to improve repair cycles, productivity, and reduce downtime.
  • Engineering Request Screening: Conduct initial engineering screening and scoping for site requests and provide technical input for scopes of repair.
  • Maintenance Strategy Development: Support the Reliability team with technical expertise to develop maintenance strategies and establish cost-effective practices with well-defined repair techniques and procedures.
  • Design Input and Technical Support: Provide maintainability and operability design input to engineering and project teams, and technical support to maintenance teams for precision maintenance, including data-driven decision making.
  • Asset Management and Planning: Support management teams in developing asset budgets, production and maintenance plans, and provide recommendations on strategic investments to optimize asset value.
  • Reliability and Performance Improvement: Identify and address reliability issues, monitor and analyze KPIs, manage the site's Asset Register in CMMS, and develop improvement plans for risk-assessed equipment bad actors/top threats.

 

 

About You

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, design, maintenance reliability engineering or related discipline.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng. designation) is preferred.
  • Maintenance Reliability Professional and/or Maintenance Management Professional is preferred.

 

Experience:

  • Minimum 8-10 years’ experience in Maintenance/Plant Engineering/Design related roles is required.
  • Experience with maintenance engineering tool (FMEA, Criticality analysis, etc.) developing asset service strategies and managing metrics such as availability, utilization, OEE, MTBF in a mining or industrial environment.
  • Proficiency in MS Office products and CMMS systems (SAP), with ability to use CAD (MicroStation/Bentley experience an asset).
  • Knowledge and experience with CWB, TSSA quality control programs

  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, planning, organizational and time management skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and demonstrated ability to monitor financial performance while troubleshooting issues.
