Job Summary
The SAP FI Support Specialist is responsible for supporting and improving the City’s SAP financial systems. Reporting to the Manager, SAP Finance & Procurement Business Support, you will work directly with business users to resolve system issues, document requirements, and configure SAP solutions. You will help implement upgrades and new features, provide training and documentation, and contribute to major SAP initiatives and projects. This role requires strong communication skills, analytical thinking, and a solid background in SAP FI/CO configuration and support.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide timely and effective functional support to SAP FI/CO/MM users by troubleshooting issues, analyzing root causes, and developing appropriate solutions.
- Collaborate with business users to gather requirements, document processes, and configure SAP solutions, including developing and validating proof-of-concepts.
- Offer expert guidance on SAP-enabled business processes, financial controls, and system functionality, ensuring alignment with organizational and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in SAP system upgrades, cloud migrations, enhancements, and the implementation of new features including testing, documentation, and user impact analysis.
- Support financial operations during month-end, year-end, audit processes, and other key financial cycles requiring SAP FI/CO expertise.
- Complete, assist, and lead Work Requests, Change Requests, enhancements, and new financial system solutions, including participation in RFPs, project planning, blueprinting, change management, and stakeholder communication.
- Evaluate SAP technology developments, industry trends, and best practices (including S/4HANA-related innovations) to provide informed recommendations for continuous improvement.
- Maintain ongoing communication with user groups through updates, bulletins, support forums, and feedback channels, ensuring transparent and proactive information sharing.
- Monitor user feedback, identify patterns or recurring issues, and coordinate corrective actions to improve service quality and system performance.
- Deliver training sessions, workshops, and knowledge-transfer activities for SAP Finance modules and related processes.
- Configure and maintain SAP FI/CO/MM settings, workflows, master data, groups, sets, and security roles (including profile generator, validations, and authorizations).
- Collaborate closely with Basis, Security, ABAP, and integration teams to resolve cross-functional issues and ensure system stability.
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Skills and Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, or Business, with SAP S/4HANA certification in FI/CO (preferred)
- Minimum 5 years of SAP FI/CO functional support experience, including configuration in Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR), General Ledger (GL), and Master Data.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in developing, modifying, or specifying standard reports, including Report Writer, Ad Hoc Query, and SAP Query.
- Minimum 5 years of experience reviewing, assessing impacts, advising on, and testing system upgrades, support packages, and new features.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong analytical and negotiation skills.
- Experience supporting systems in an SAP HANA environment would be an asset.
- Experience in accounting/financial operations within a Canadian municipal environment would be an asset.
- Experience with SAP Personas and Precisely Automate would be an asset.
- Experience supporting Real Estate, Cash Management, Asset Accounting, Cost Allocation, Project Systems, and SAP Concur would be an asset.
Hourly Rate/Salary: $ 89,464.00 - $ 119,286.00
