What is the opportunity?

The Manager, Product Control will provide quality analytical support to RBC’s QSG desk, as well as daily P&L reporting and analysis on an accurate and timely basis.  The position requires a seasoned professional able to work closely with multiple traders and able to manage the integrity of the local general ledger. The individual must possess an excellent understanding of P/L production, comprehensive knowledge of various equity products and balance sheet maintenance.

This is a highly visible role due the nature of the position. The results reported by the individual are relied upon by the Senior Product Controller, Senior Management and Front Office to manage the businesses and report financial results to the head office in Canada. They will act as the liaison with Front Office, Operations / BCS, Information Technology, Trading Processing, Financial Control and other operating units to facilitate the requirements of the business. Though you’ll serve as individual contributor, you’ll work within a cohesive, collaborate team with a multitude of collective experience from which you can draw. 


You’ll also have direct exposure to several lines of business as well as an opportunity to interact with Senior Management and Finance teams throughout the organization. These connections and experiences will position you well for further growth at RBC, one of the largest financial services firms in the world.

What you will do?

  • Perform a daily P&L reconciliation and analysis function, while maintaining effective validation and controls.
  • Responsible for the breakdown and analysis of both sequential and risk-based P&L decomposition
  • Provide insightful PL commentary (daily/weekly/monthly)
  • Meeting Reporting deadlines , and investigating and documenting breaches
  • Highlight and analyze New Deal activity, including production of Significant Transaction Reviews
  • Delivering an alternative method for analyzing different strategies
  • Provide advice to the Traders and Senior Managers on trade bookings, accounting treatment, and reserving for new transactions
  • Liaison between the Traders and Information Technology
  • Compare and reconcile the Sub Ledger to the General Ledger
  • Collaborate with other areas within the firm (FC, IT, Ops, FO, IPV, Risk, Tax)
  • Provide documentation and initial responses to queries from internal audit
  • Assist in ongoing projects and Ad hoc projects (investigations, and development of new tools)

What you need to succeed?

Must Have

  • 2+ years of Capital Markets experience
  • Strong accounting experience
  • Excellent Excel Skills
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Able to work effectively and reliably under pressure
  • Advanced understanding of procedures and operational controls as they relate to trading systems and workflows
  • Strong ability to work independently with minimal guidance from manager
