NAIT’s Respiratory Technology, located at our Edmonton Campus, requires an individual to join their team as an Instructional Assistant II.

The position is primarily for weekdays and include may some weekends and evenings. Successful candidate must be available for shifts between the hours of 7 am and 6 pm. These positions are recurring, with lay-off over the summer months when the clinic is closed, and students are off campus.


Key Responsibilities:

Lab Support:

  • Assist to maintain lab equipment and perform quality control procedures

  • Ensure work area is in a safe and clean condition

  • Liaison with other sections or programs when required

  • Maintain equipment and procure supplies and materials for the Respiratory Technology

  • Prepare, set up and dismantle laboratory instruments and supplies for use by students and instructors

Instructional Support:

  • Assist with the instruction during RET student laboratories which include basic clinic procedures, hematology, reception, anesthesia, surgical assisting, and animal nursing

  • Assist instructors during instructional periods in the explanation and demonstration of laboratory instruments and procedures to students, as required

  • Evaluate students based on existing rubrics and assessment tools, provided by instructors, and provide feedback

  • Independent supervision of students

  • Ensure knowledge of related equipment including use and application

  • Provide feedback to instructors regarding lab exercises

Student Support:

  • Provide tutorial/remedial support

  • Assist students in the development and execution of technical projects in cooperation with other staff members

  • Ensure students are working in safe conditions


Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills

  • Adapt easily to change and espouse continuous quality improvement with a strong focus on student success and satisfaction

  • Willing to learn and understand the policies, processes and procedures that pertain to the Respiratory program

  • Have effective oral and written communication skills

  • Excellent working knowledge of laboratory safety and exhibit safe work practices

  • Computer literacy, including experience with Microsoft Office Suite and animal clinic software


Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary diploma, degree or certificate in animal health technology or veterinary technology

  • An actively registered Veterinary Technologist with the ABVMA with considerable directly related veterinary experience

  • Mixed animal experience is an asset

  • Equivalencies may be considered

 

Applicants with education credentials earned outside of Canada should have their credentials evaluated by World Education Services or the International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS).


Remuneration: $59,603.44 - $79,497.34 annually, plus a comprehensive benefits package. (Classification – Instructional Assistant II).                           

This position is covered by the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) Collective Agreement.
