The Opportunity:
Join our team at Symcor and lead our efforts to maintain a safe and compliant workplace, ensuring that health and safety protocols align with federal regulations and best practices in the industry.
You will manage and continuously enhance our Health & Safety program, including the Hazard Prevention Program, while supporting our Local Health & Safety and Policy Committees. Your expertise will guide staff on minimizing risks, monitoring workplace hazards, and improving safety systems. You will also design and deliver staff training programs and take the lead on ensuring regulatory compliance and reporting.
This is a hybrid role with requirements to be on site 3 days a week, primarily at our locations in Mississauga and Toronto but may require some travel to other Symcor sites.
About The Role:
• Ensure and manage Symcor’s compliance with its occupational health and safety requirements under the Canada Labour Code and in accordance with industry best practices.
• Evaluate and update current practices, procedures and facilities to assess risk and maintain compliance with health and safety obligations.
• Create, implement, manage and continually update Symcor’s job safety analysis sheets.
• Keep up to date with new legislative and regulatory requirements and maintain a working knowledge of federal occupational health and safety legislation and any developments that affect the industry.
• Develop and manage all Symcor Health & Safety training programs.
What You Need to Succeed:
Education:
• Bachelor’s degree or Occupational Health and Safety Diploma
• CRSP Certification (Canadian Registered Safety Professional)
Experience:
• 5+ years of experience in Occupational Health & Safety, with a focus on the federal health and safety regime
Skill requirements
• Strong knowledge of risk management, hazard prevention, and safety auditing.
• Ability to advise and collaborate with leadership on health and safety initiatives.
• Exceptional communication skills with the ability to influence and guide teams.
• Ability to act with tact, good judgement and discretion.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) for reporting and analysis.
