Your Opportunity

Stantec is seeking a Geotechnical Lab Manager for our Dartmouth geotechnical laboratory, which provides conventional and advanced field and laboratory testing services for soil, rock, aggregate, concrete, and Asphalt. This leader will perform business development efforts to support the materials testing and the lab testing service offering.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Manage clients and projects, including communicating with internal and external clients regarding the scope of services and schedule.
  • Participate in business development and collaboration efforts that include connecting with internal and external clients, preparing proposals, and attending client meetings as required
  • Oversee maintenance, calibration, purchase, and certification of equipment
  • Maintain laboratory certifications for CCIL
  • Hire, train, and supervise laboratory technicians/technologists
  • Oversee and coordinate receipt of laboratory samples and track progress during testing
  • Coordinate with other Stantec laboratories to balance workload and share resources as needed
  • Prepare proposals for laboratory and field services
  • Perform quality control reviews of laboratory and field results, and issue final reports
  • Promote safe work practices for all laboratory and field activities

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Management experience in a geotechnical/materials setting is preferred, but not required
  • Experience with laboratory soil, concrete, and asphalt testing procedures
  • Materials testing and construction field review project experience
  • Experience with NSDTI (Nova Scotia Department of Transportation) projects and associated field and laboratory testing procedures would be a strong asset
  • CCIL Certification for soils, concrete, and asphalt would be an asset
  • Knowledge of soil, concrete, and asphalt sampling techniques and construction methodology
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational abilities
  • Willingness to be a team player with a strong ability to work independently
  • Maintain a seller-doer mindset
  • Maintain a positive and problem-solving attitude

Education and Experience

Technician/technologist/engineering diploma from a recognized college or university

Minimum 8 years experience in geotechnical laboratory and field testing

Current registration with TechNova or Engineers Nova Scotia and hold designation as C.Tech., C.E.T., P.Tech.(Eng.), or P.Eng

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Ability to lift and move items and equipment up to 50 lbs.
