Stantec’s Transportation team has an immediate opportunity for a Junior Environmental Planner to join our Hamilton or Toronto office. This is a great opportunity for a recent graduate with knowledge and experience working on environmental assessments. Similar summer work-term or co-op experience would be considered as a definite asset for this position.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting the environmental component of multi-disciplinary projects
  • Supporting the preparation of environmental documents for all phases of transportation projects from planning through to construction
  • Maintaining effective communication and liaison with regulatory agencies and stakeholders to collect information in order to identify and address issues
  • Coordinating public consultation programs, including open houses
  • Analyzing input from multi-disciplinary teams and consultants
  • Interacting with clients, regulators and stakeholders
  • Writing reports, proposals and presentations
  • Following quality assurance/quality control, and health and safety requirements.

Your Qualifications

  • Demonstrated working knowledge of provincial and federal environmental legislation, including environmental assessment legislation, the MTO Class EA for Provincial
  • Transportation Facilities, and the Municipal Class EA process
  • Experience in or a solid understanding of the consulting industry in a multidisciplinary environment
  • Demonstrated experience with the items listed in the “responsibilities” section
  • Ability to synthesize and analyze data
  • Proven and demonstrated high-quality technical writing skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Education and Experience

  • Degree in Environmental Planning, Environmental Science, Geography, Biology/Ecology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 1–2 years’ experience in environmental planning roles, which may include project management, project coordination, environmental regulatory applications, and client interaction (desired but not required)

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
