PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
Join our journey in sustainable rail innovation as a Hydrogen Locomotive Co-op Student, crafting CPKC’s hydrogen locomotive program. Troubleshooting brand-new PLC systems and programming in Python or C to building and testing parts with a 3D printer, this role blends technical expertise with creativity. You'll analyze real-world data, develop innovative tools, and contribute to strategies that impact the future of rail transportation. This is more than an internship; it’s a chance to drive progress, reduce environmental impact, and shape the next chapter of North American rail.
This position is a minimum 8-month internship starting September 2025 with the possibility of extending to 16 Months.
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Coordinate the implementation and installation of hydrogen locomotive specific technologies
- Propose new processes and technologies to improve hydrogen locomotive development
- Support all mechanical, electrical development and testing work on the hydrogen locomotive
- Adhere to CPKC’s health and safety policy
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Enrolled in the 3rd or 4th year of an engineering program at an accredited college or university
- 1 Project or coursework in Printer Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) programming and industrial control systems
- Course work in AutoCAD or similar design software
- Coursework with programming languages like Python or C

Management Conductor Program
Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
