The Opportunity
We are currently seeking a Specialist Engineer - Technical Services to join our Information Technology Planning & Business Partnership team in Toronto or Sudbury, Ontario.
This is a permanent position, on Monday to Friday schedule, working a hybrid between the Toronto or Sudbury office and a home office.
As a Specialist Engineer - Technical Services, you will play a key role in supporting the partnership between IT and Technical Services across Exploration, Mining, Processing, Capital Projects, and Asset Management. Working closely with Business Process Owners within the Chief Technology Office (CTO), you will help analyze business priorities, processes, systems, and data requirements to develop a comprehensive multi-year technology strategy and roadmap for these end-to-end processes. Your technical expertise will enable you to influence the company’s technology future through collaboration with our central Technical Services team.
Additionally, in this position you will work in:
- Build relationship based on expertise and domain knowledge;
- Act as the IT interface point and as a “Business Process & IT consulting services provider" supporting processes design, continuous improvements and performance measurement according to VBM Operating Model;
- Collect technology demands, assist in business cases development, and apply prioritization and restriction criteria, creating roadmaps integrated to business planning cycle and aligned with VBM Strategy in the short, medium and long term and end-to-end process needs;
- Collaborate with IT teams to ensure technology solutions are fit-for-purpose, scalable, and aligned with VBM IT strategy, architecture, and governance;
- Work with other IT Planning & Business Partners Specialists to align the roadmaps across assets and enabling functions;
- Support the business in realizing value from investments in technology.
About You
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
Experience
- 10-15 years experience one or more technical domains: Exploration, Mining, Processing, Capital Projects, Asset Management.
Skills:
- Deep understanding of Technical Services processes and operations in Mining & Metals or similar heavy industries.
- Proven interest in IT, technology, and data, with knowledge of how digital solutions drive cost reduction and value creation.
- Ability to contribute to multi-year technology roadmaps and ensure alignment with business strategies.
- Experience with budget control and value realization tracking.
- Familiarity with LEAN concepts.
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills to engage technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Customer-centric mindset and ability to maintain service levels.
- Proven ability to build relationships and influence at leadership level, as well as to engage with business process owners & delegates, and IT project managers & technical teams.
- English required; Portuguese is an asset.
