Join us as a Wildlife Student in Fort McMurray, where you'll get to work with the regulatory side and develop your skills in identifying birds, mammals, and amphibians. You'll gain hands-on experience that will boost your knowledge and make a real difference in wildlife conservation. Working alongside experts, you'll contribute to important projects that help protect our natural world.Minimum Requirements:
Current enrollment in a Biological Science, Environmental Science, Ecology, Engineering, or a related degree with an environmental or wildlife focus, at an accredited post-secondary institution. You must be returning to full-time studies after the work term. Please attach your most recent transcripts with your application
Knowledge of wildlife management and/or conservation programs.
Knowledge of pertinent provincial and federal regulatory Acts and Regulations
Strong computer skills, particularly with MS Office programs i.e., Excel
A valid driver’s license and a clean driving record
Responsibilities:
Engage in a variety of projects with wildlife and/or environmental aspects
Assist with various wildlife management programs e.g., human-bear conflict management program, bird monitoring program, bird deterrent program.
Assist with various components of Tailings’ bird deterrent and bird monitoring programs, including independently completely monthly audits with the Suncor Base Plant avian management contractor
Assist with internal regulatory field inspections and site visits.
Assist in the planning and organization of environmental and wildlife related initiatives and communications. Assist the wildlife advisors in tracking, follow-up, and response to wildlife incidents
Support the facilitation of wildlife training for Suncor employees and review of their party wildlife awareness training for equivalency to Suncor training.
Assist environmental and regulatory advisors in supporting the business to ensure regulatory compliance
Enter, manage, analyze, and compile different types of wildlife, environment, and regulatory data
Review, compile, and help write weekly / monthly / annual reports.
Update and create presentations, reports, communications, flow charts using MS Visio, spreadsheets, and other documents as required
·Support and manage document control for the Environmental & Regulatory team
Location and other Key Details:
This is a 12-month term commitment beginning in January 2025
Relocation support will be provided if required
Students who live and work in Fort McMurray are eligible for a cash allowance to address the cost of living and the remote nature of the region
