Your Opportunity
An exciting opportunity exists for a Senior Marine Structures Engineer to become part of our dynamic transportation business group in British Columbia, within our award-winning ports and marine terminals sector. Stantec’s transportation business group has a strong local presence and participates in some of Stantec’s largest and most iconic transportation projects – locally, nationally, and globally. The successful candidate will be someone with a strong structural design and marine project management background also demonstrating exceptional leadership, communication, and passion for leading and empowering teams.
A Marine Structures Engineer has both the technical abilities with ports/marine experience and interpersonal skills to support the leadership of a positive team environment, work collaboratively with multiple disciplines and support a culture of safety. Through your broad consulting background, you will perform a variety of tasks which may include design & design management, condition inspections, rehabilitation planning/design, quality assurance, project management, mentorship, client account management, resource planning, proposal writing, and quality management.
Your Key Responsibilities
Marine Structures Engineering and Project Management:
- Planning and design of marine structures related to various container terminals, LNG facilities, shipyards, ferry terminals, small craft harbours, waterfront developments, multi-use terminals, parks, roadways, railways, and other port infrastructure.
- Supervising the work of structural analysts and designers for a variety of docks/wharves/jetties/bulkheads and other marine structures.
- Project management for significant marine projects and multi-disciplinary projects involving port infrastructure.
- Leading design of select port projects, including Engineer of Record and Coordinating Professional Engineer responsibilities.
- Preparing contract documents, cost estimates, reports, and proposals.
- Preparing and presenting information to clients, the public, and other stakeholders.
- Managing the production of high-quality design drawings from BIM/CAD/Civil3D and other state of the art drawing production software.
- Providing direction to and mentoring junior and intermediate designers and technical support staff.
- Regular collaboration with colleagues in our multi-disciplined design offices.
- Interaction with Stantec teams globally for project collaboration and participation as a senior ports and marine terminals specialist on complex developments.
- Client account management, business development, and marketing activities.
- Leading project coordination meetings with internal team members and / or external consultants, owners and contractor, sub-contractors, and vendors.
People, Process, and Business Leadership:
- Support the growth of our ports and marine practice across Canada West region, working within our 200 person transportation business group in BC.
- Consult with clients and client account planning as required.
- Leadership of a team of highly skilled professional engineers, engineers in training, technologists, designers, and co-op students to successfully execute projects of varying sizes and complexity.
- Mentoring and technical development of junior designers and EIT’s.
- Staff performance reviews and career development.
- Overseeing and managing multiple projects.
- Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.
Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Working knowledge of relevant structural design guidelines.
- Familiarity with BC specific code requirements, including a strong understanding of seismic design of marine structures.
- Experience in a project manager role and/or senior structural engineer role.
- Has worked on Design-Bid-Build and P3 projects.
- Experience in design and construction of complex marine structures.
- Experience in preparing proposals and reports.
- Ability to lead individuals and teams on project assignments.
- Proven experience in structure inspections, condition surveys, rehabilitation, repair, and asset management.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Education and Experience
- Graduate degree in Civil Engineering with a minimum of 10 years of professional experience.
Position will work in person and remotely to serve the BC region with a preference to have at the minimum 3 days per week in office work with some field work as required.

Pay transparency laws require employers to provide the following information for positions that may be in the following jurisdiction(s):
Salary Range(s):
- Lower Mainland $123,800/BC Other Areas $116,800 - Lower Mainland $185,700/BC Other Areas $175,200 Min/Max Pay Range for postings located in BC (Lower Mainland includes Vancouver & Burnaby)
The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
