Joining Suncor means you will work for one of the best companies in Canada, providing tremendous future potential where talented people thrive and lead. As our business evolves, so do our employment opportunities. Our work culture includes a dynamic mix of professionals, with a diversity of skills and expertise.
Reporting to the Manager Firebag Reservoir Development, you will work with the Geomechanical Engineering team supporting the development and operation of In Situ projects at Suncor.Geomechanical analysis and subsurface characterization are critical for assessing risk and optimizing SAGD projects. Appropriate geomechanical characterization of reservoir and caprock involves integrating various data sources to attain their properties and predict their behavior. In this project, we aim to advance our subsurface characterization workflow within our assets by integrating geomechanical lab results, microfrac tests, and wireline logs. This approach will allow to analyze the material’s elasticity, strength, permeability, and lithological variations continuously identifying correlations and heterogeneities within the sedimentary layers, leading to more robust and reliable models.
The student will assist in the integration and analysis of these datasets. This project will contribute to the understanding of the spatial and vertical variations of caprock properties across different regions. The outcomes of this project are expected to lead to more accurate predictions of geomechanical response to make informed decision in SAGD projects.
Minimum Requirements
- Currently enrolled in a masters of Engineering or Geoscience, or a related program
- Please attach your most recent transcripts with your application
- Knowledge in geomechanical analysis and geomechanical data collection and interpretation
Responsibilities:
- Build geomechanical 1D Mechanical Earth Models (MEM) integrating data sources such as wireline logs, lab results, and microfrac tests to create a comprehensive dataset for subsurface characterization (focus on reservoir and caprock).
- Analyze the integrated data to identify correlations within the different data sources.
- Map and understand the spatial and vertical heterogeneities of the caprock across different areas of interest.
- Utilize findings to refine existing static models and provide recommendations for better predictive capabilities based on logs.
Location & Other Key Details:
- You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W.
- Relocation support will be provided if required
