Overview:
Pembina Pipelines currently has an opportunity for an Engineering Intern to work in our field locations Northwest of Hythe, Alberta, within our Gas Services Business Unit (GBU), part of Pembina’s Operations Business Division. We are particularly interested in candidates who are pursuing degrees in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering.
The length of the term is 8-12 months, starting January 6, 2025. This position will report directly to the Supervisor, Operations Engineering.
Please note that this is not a camp-based position, but we may offer a one-time relocation allowance for eligible candidates.
The Gas Services Business Unit provides gas and liquids processing fee-for-service solutions for customers in strategic locations across the Western Canadian Sedimentary and Williston Basins. We are the largest third-party gas processor serving the WCSB at 6.2 billion cubic feet per day (bcf/d) and 128,000 bbl/d of condensate stabilization. Liquids processed and extracted from the facilities are transported by Pembina's Conventional Pipelines business unit with a portion of the volumes being further processed at Pembina's RFS facilities. Positioning of GBU at the front of the value chain allows Pembina to offer full integration from well head to market.
Responsibilities may include but not limited to:
- Support Pembina’s safety culture of "Zero by Choice" and the “Life Saving Rules”. To read more about our Life Saving Rules, visit pembina.com/safety;
- Actively champion facility P&ID updates, drawing reviews and validation;
- Support the facility through the execution of assigned Management of Change assignments and projects associated that impact processing equipment and infrastructure related to Natural Gas processing;
- Support the various Technical Services Engineers as well as the Maintenance and Operations teams as required in the areas of process evaluation, incident investigations, project definition and development, project engineering, project controls (cost and schedule), and procedure development;
- Support the development of new Process Safety Information Systems and registries as well as update and maintain active systems;
- Assist in the reporting of key team performance indicators;
- Ensure MOC and project deliverables are technically accurate and meet project requirements;
- Collaborate with various stakeholders at the facilities, project teams and others within the organization to execute assignments at the facility;
- Focus on deliverables related to priorities and time-sensitive deadlines;
- Commitment to continuously act in a safe, environmental and socially conscientious manner; and
- Participate and support an equitable, diverse, and inclusive workplace.
Qualifications:
- Completion of 1st, 2nd or 3rd year of a four-year accredited Engineering program with preference in the disciplines of Mechanical or Chemical;
- Possess working knowledge of engineering principles related to the gas processing industry and be knowledgeable in applicable rules and regulations governing the industry;
- Demonstrate understanding of basic principles related to engineering and operation of gas processing facilities and pipelines.;
- Strong computer skills and literacy in word processing, presentation, and spreadsheet software including MS Power Point, MS Word, MS Excel, MS Project and Visio;
- Previous experience working in an engineering environment would be considered an asset;
- Understand Project Management practices and application of PM processes;
- Have the capacity to learn and succeed in a fast pace working environment;
- Exemplifies traits conducive to organizational growth and success such as team building, persistence and dedication to quality work, and the ability to learn and develop daily;
- Must possess good communication and problem-solving skills, ability to articulate ideas, be detail oriented, and be comfortable dealing with associates at all levels within the organization;
- Ability to work independently and make decisions in the absence of a supervisor;
- Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to maintain strong working relationships; and
- Must possess a valid license and have access to a vehicle to commute to and from the site.
This position is considered “Safety Sensitive” and so will require Pre-Employment Drug & Alcohol Testing which includes testing for marijuana metabolites. You may also be required to provide a Driver’s Abstract.
The successful candidate must live within 100 km of Hythe, AB.
Pembina’s Flexible Work Standard provides the option for eligible employees to work remotely on Mondays and Fridays.
