The Centre for Teaching & Learning Innovation is seeking a qualified professional to join the team as a Curriculum & Program Quality Consultant (CPQC). Under the direction of the Associate Dean, the CPQC Consultant role provides academic leadership by advising, guiding, and training individual faculty and curriculum teams as they engage in on-going academic quality improvements for new and existing programs and courses.
The Consultant role enhances academic quality by providing expertise in teaching, learning, and quality improvement in support of all academic divisions, including the facilitation of Comprehensive Program Review. The Consultant will also assist program areas in the development of new programs ranging from micro-credentials to applied degree programs. In collaboration with the wider CTL team, the Consultant will develop responsive, inclusive approaches to curricular design, including Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and create resources, deliver workshops, and support teaching & learning initiatives.
What you’ll be doing:
- Work collaboratively with other multi-disciplinary teams including Teaching & Learning Consultants and Educational Technology Specialists within CTL to provide expert support to Program areas, Associate Deans, Curriculum teams and individual faculty members, in the development and redesign of College programming across current and emerging delivery formats and modalities.
- Guide faculty and staff to conceptualize, plan, design, develop, and revise curriculum using formal methodologies.
- Guide and coach faculty to incorporate e principles of learning theory when designing for specific delivery, including on-line.
- Guide and coach faculty and staff in the design of formative and summative assessment instruments appropriate for outcomes-based learning.
- Advise, coach, and facilitate faculty in the use of learning management systems, online learning strategies, and tools that improve curriculum quality and ensure accessibility.
- Establish sustainable curriculum processes and standards which promote innovative and accessible curriculum across the College and reflect teaching and learning strategies such as, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), Experiential Learning (EL), adaptive technology, and alternative delivery methodologies.
- Guide faculty and curriculum teams through the Comprehensive Program Review and College accreditation processes.
- Promote alignment with Provincial/Ministry curriculum processes and frameworks.
- Use model curricula and evidence-informed research to advise faculty and staff on the evaluation of program/course content.
- Provide training and quality assurance support for the implementation of the Course Outline Mapping and Management System (COMMS).
- Build institutional capacity in all aspects of curriculum development and implementation through coaching, providing professional development, and sharing support tools and materials.
- Advise and assist the academic departments with faculty training related to curriculum design, development, and delivery.
- Engage in collaborative research on the scholarship of teaching and learning.
- Participate in College committees that deal with curriculum strategy, quality, policy and other related matters.
- Participate in a provincial network of curriculum specialists to identify and share best practices in curriculum.
What you’ll bring to the role:
- A Master’s degree in Education, or equivalent, with a concentration on curriculum design and adult learning.
- Post-secondary teaching experience, in the college sector, is an asset.
- Experience in training and assisting faculty and staff and skilled at supporting professional development.
- Leadership and hands-on experience in curriculum development at the post-secondary level, with preference given to applicants with experience designing degree programs.
- Experience with the design and development of blended and fully online programs and courses.
- Experience using a Learning Management System (preferably by Instructure/Canvas or d2L).
- Experience with assessment design, using principles of Curriculum Mapping, Backwards/Integrated Design, Constructive Alignment and Authentic Assessment.
- Familiar with quality systems and their application to education.
- Strong planning, time-management, writing, and presentation skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to demonstrate their experience as an effective leader and team member.
- Ability to relate theoretical knowledge and practical applications through innovative delivery methods to provide a meaningful learning environment for students of diverse backgrounds and ages.
- Learner-centred approach and to assist in the development and application of alternate delivery methods.
- Demonstrated commitment and understanding of human rights, equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility.
- The ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse students, employees, and communities.
