Position Summary...
The Senior Manager, Assortment Optimization role leads a team of assortment-optimization associates, who will guide and support omni merchants through decision-making process that leads to highly productive assortments - improving customer experience and maximizing sales & profitability, across both stores and online channels.This Senior Manager, Assortment Optimization will be responsible for oversight and effectiveness of the assortment-optimization workstream at Walmart Canada.
The assortment-optimization workstream aims to ensure Walmart’s store and online assortment optimally reflects our customer demand, and successfully delivers on our sales and profit aspirations. As such, the Senior Manager, Assortment Optimization will use robust merchandising knowledge, scalable data-driven approaches, and advanced-analytical tools to support assortment decisions that drive category growth and help execute merchandising strategies and KPIs.
This is 13 month fixed term contract role.
What you'll do...
1. Lead the overall strategy and planning for the assortment optimization workstream at Walmart Canada, influencing and aligning-with the senior merchant leadership (CMO, SVPs and VPs) on the approach, prioritization, and execution.
2. Influence cross-functional leaders (SVPs/VPs and Senior Directors) outside merchandising, in teams such as format development, store operations, ecommerce operations and marketing to support execution on assortment optimization priorities.
3. Develop and own the roadmap for advanced analytics capabilities needed to execute on assortment optimization work-steam. Oversee the adoption and execution of best-in-class assortment solutions, analytics and tools.
4. Lead the assortment team in translating complex business rules such as category roles and strategies, shopper insights, store clusters and channel-dynamics into store and OMNI channel-level assortment decisions.
5. Collaborate closely with the space/planogram leads, merchants and category advisors, to guide and support design of planograms and to achieve optimal modular assortments that aligns with the strategic objectives of categories.
6. Embed appropriate channel decisions guardrails and tools within merchandising.
7. Hire, train, and coach a team of leaders and experts who champion the use of big-data, insights and advanced-analytics used to make assortment decisions.
8. Establish and lead annual team objectives, proactively taking ownership and accountability for the assortment workstream.
9. Communicate and collaborate with Senior Leaders – including SVP, VPs and Senior Directors across the business to drive continuous improvement in assortment decisions.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree
5 - 8 Years of experience working on and/or leading assortment, space, category strategy projects and initiative with an emphasis on data driven approaches and insights
Exceptional analytical skills with the ability to draw insights from complex data
Experience in helping define analytical solutions to business problems
Understanding of how fact-based tools can be used for better decision making in complex and dynamic business environments
Excellent interpersonal skills and proven ability to influence and communicate across all levels
Ability to motivate, guide and mentor a high-performing team
