JOB OVERVIEW
Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic, and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Senior Artificial Intelligence (AI) Developer.
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Data and Artificial Intelligence, this position is responsible to provide leadership and technical specialist support for the design and life cycle management of AI systems that support the secure economic operation and commercialization of the power generation assets of OPG. You will manage initiatives and provide for technical direction, user requirements, system design, software development, systems integration, research, and training. OPG has an incredible amount of untapped data, and you will be one of the people leading the charge to harness this data.
The successful candidate for this role will be a generalist Data Scientist / AI Developer who has specialization in at least one area, an eagerness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced industry, and an eye for low-hanging fruit and minimum-viable products. They will have the confidence and expertise to push for positive change in the team, in the wider department, and in the company as a whole.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Lead cross-functional teams to drive AI project execution, translating business requirements into technical specifications. Ensure alignment with business objectives through effective communication and methodologies like Agile and Scrum.
- Architect and design AI solutions from inception to deployment, leading the development and implementation of advanced AI/ML models.
- Support the development of AI governance frameworks, advocating for responsible AI, risk management, and best practices in data and analytics.
- Champion AI communication and education initiatives, ensuring employees at all levels understand the capabilities, benefits, and implications of AI. Drive change management efforts to foster a culture of AI adoption and continuous learning
- Apply expertise in data science methods, including Large Language Models, Machine Learning, Reinforcement Learning, Deep Learning, and Optimization.
- Train, deploy, and manage AI/ML models and solutions, such as logistic regression, decision trees, clustering, Bayesian networks, and Generative AI techniques, including Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG), fine-tuning, and prompt engineering.
- Apply best practices in software engineering, including CI/CD, version control, test-driven development, and MLOps/DevOps.
- Implement MLOps practices to build end-to-end pipelines and deploy models in production.
- Mentor junior team members and participate in code and architecture reviews.
- Conduct data cleansing activities and data quality management, including performing feasibility studies to ensure data suitability for AI/ML solutions.
- Other duties as required.
EDUCATION
- Mandatory completion of a 4 year University education in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Physics, or other relevant programs within Data, AI, or ML.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum experience of over 4 years and up to and including 6 years is considered necessary in Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML) and statistical modelling.
- Proven experience driving business value as a Data Scientist or AI/ML Developer, including deploying ML models to production (estimated 4-6 years in the field).
- Experience building and delivering data science products in Python, and familiarity with major libraries/ tooling.
- Familiarity with Software Engineering and MLOps best practices.
- Familiarity with version control software such as git.
- Experience with communicating business value from data science projects to non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience with building and managing data pipelines that perform preprocessing and cleaning tasks on large datasets in Spark.
- (Nice-to-have) Experience with Azure and cloud development environments such as Databricks.

The base salary range considers many factors including, but not limited to experience, education, and training, including any collective agreement requirements for union represented positions. It is not typical for the salary to be offered near the top of the range, and salary is dependent on numerous factors. For management roles, the base salary range does not represent the total compensation package. The total compensation package for regular full-time management roles includes pay-for-performance programs for annual and medium time periods.
