Hybrid job: This job offers the opportunity to work from home as part of a hybrid work arrangement. This arrangement will allow you to work some days at a TCHC work location and the rest of the time from home. The amount of time required to work at a TCHC work location is flexible, while considering operational and service delivery requirements.
Make a Difference
Reporting to the Manager, Stakeholder Relations, the Senior Advisor, Stakeholder Relations develops and supports initiatives and manages projects that further Toronto Community Housing’s strategic goals in a manner that supports TCHC's tenant focused culture. The role supervises the work of the Council Liaison that is responsible for addressing day-to-day inquiries, requests and concerns from elected officials and their staff at all three levels of government. They will lead and support a variety of initiatives to advance the organization’s priorities. They will have the opportunity to work with staff to liaise with government officials, develop strategic responses to emerging issues, and provide advice on stakeholder relations matters. The work environment is fast-paced and collegial, and the Senior Advisor is expected to be solution-focused and collaborative, and to exercise sound judgment at all times.
What you’ll do
- Supervise the work of TCHC’s Council Liaison team, responsible for addressing day-to-day complaints, inquiries and information requests from elected officials and their staff at all levels of government.
- Develop and implement standard operating procedures, response templates and other materials to guide the team’s work.
- Review and analyze tracking, response times and feedback; provide monthly reporting on service levels, trends, actions arising from complaints and recommendations for improvement.
- Meet regularly with elected officials and their staff to help resolve complex issues and inquiries
- Monitor City Council and Standing Committee agendas; analyze and report on policies and decisions impacting the corporation.
- Prepare CEO and Executive Leadership Team for appearances before Standing Committees and Toronto City Council.
- Organize meetings for the CEO and senior management with elected officials and government partners; coordinate advance work, logistics and staff support; prepare briefing materials as required.
- Develop reports, papers, briefing notes, and presentations for internal use and to communicate to stakeholders
- Work proactively and collaboratively with staff across TCHC to problem solve and develop common approaches for promoting awareness and understanding of TCHC initiatives, projects and policies with the different orders of government and with key stakeholders
What you’ll need
- University degree and/or college diploma in public affairs, government relations, journalism, political science or a related subject area.
- 5-7 years of experience with focus on intergovernmental, political or stakeholder relations work.
- Strong networking and relationship building skills within various levels of government.
- Proven ability to interact effectively with and engage a variety of stakeholders including: staff, tenants, business partners and community groups.
- Formal or informal experience supervising or mentoring staff.
- Excellent organizational skills, with a high level of attention to detail.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage high-profile sensitive issues in a fast-paced public environment.
- High degree of judgment and discretion; ability to analyze, problem solve and mediate complex situations with multiple stakeholders.
- Proficiency with computerized business applications including word processing, spreadsheet, presentation and database software applications.
- Working knowledge of Toronto Community Housing’s operations, policies and procedures and relevant legislation that is applicable to Toronto Community Housing.
