Main Purpose and Function
The Project Coordinator II reviews complex Part 9 and Part 3 building plans and special events and documentation for compliance with the Vancouver Building By-law and related standards and City policies and facilitates applications between various City departments, various review groups, homeowners, developers and design professionals from the initial application stage through to permit issuance. The Project Coordinator II is also a City resource for other civic departments who reviews and issues a permit or license for functions or activities that have a building code related requirement for complex part 9 and part 3 buildings.
Specific Duties/Responsibilities
Works in a fast-paced, service-oriented branch a this position:
- Completes technical checks on moderately complex building permit applications (complex part 9 and part 3 buildings);
- Enters into discussions with consultants, developers and contractors;
- Provides timely and accurate advice on technical and procedural matters;
- Assists those applicants and/or homeowners new to the building permit process;
- Participates in pre-application meetings and answers telephone and counter enquiries.

Minimum Position Requirements
Education and Experience:
- Graduation from an Institute of Technology with a Diploma in Building, Architectural or Civil Technology and related industry or municipal experience in plans examination and inspection, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Solid experience in the design and construction of buildings, preferably in a multi-disciplinary environment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Thorough working knowledge of the Vancouver Building By-law and other related codes and standards with the ability to provide interpretation the intent of the by-law.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and handle a heavy workload in an organized and efficient manner.
- Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills and the ability to deal tactfully and effectively with the public.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills and experience with a variety of computer software, including Microsoft Office applications.
Ability to meet transportation requirements.
Where operationally appropriate and subject to change, the City of Vancouver has a Flexible Work Program. This program allows staff to work remotely 1 – 4 days a week from locations that are a daily commutable distance from their work at a City worksite. At this time this position is eligible to be part of the Flexible Work Program.
