Your Opportunity
As an Intermediate GIS Specialist with Stantec you are joining a team of GIS Specialists that work collaboratively to deliver solutions to our internal and external clients using an Esri Enterprise environment. The GIS Specialist is part of our Environmental Services Geospatial team working on a variety of projects.
Stantec’s Environmental Services group works with clients in mining, local and provincial governments, transportation, infrastructure development, power, and oil and gas. We provide Geospatial solutions and mapping services for various projects such as environmental assessments, environmental permitting, water resource and infrastructure planning, wildlife and habitat monitoring, archaeology assessments, heritage studies, and air and noise monitoring.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Strategize, plan, and coordinate assignments/projects with the project team to identify objectives, relative priorities, and critical work areas that impact the work of other groups
- Coordinate geospatial projects including spatial data, budgets, and timelines as part of a multi-disciplinary team
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships through liaising between internal and external staff including clients, project managers, discipline contacts, and other consultants
- Contribute to business development within the geospatial team and business center (BC) including BC-wide proposals and projects
- Assist in the development of costs and budgets associated with pursuits and opportunities
- Create and maintain spatial information for a variety of platforms primarily involving Esri ArcGIS software
- Prepare web maps, online dashboards, and manage data for field survey crews, using applications and platforms which include Survey 123, Field Maps, and ArcGIS Online/ArcGIS Enterprise
- Produce maps and data analysis/summaries to support project deliverables
- Meet established Quality Assurance/ Quality Control processes
- Operate Windows platform and MS Office suite (Teams, Outlook, Word, Access, Excel)
- Meet project needs in a timely and effective manner
- Support and encourage technical and safety training within the team
Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Required:
- Experience using Esri ArcGIS software including ArcPro/ ArcMap (legacy projects), ArcGIS Online, and ArcGIS Field Maps App
- Working knowledge of ArcGIS geoprocessing tools including Spatial Analyst, 3D Analyst, Topology, and/or other third-party add-ons
- Ability to produce custom thematic maps for technical reports and field surveys
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Technical training and experience in GIS mapping, geospatial analysis, and geographic principles (e.g., map projections and coordinate systems)
- Experience writing proposals and reports
- Ability to prioritize, organize, and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously
- Strong cartographic skills including the ability to adhere to standards and communicate highly complex information in an accessible and attractive manner
- Demonstrated experience working as part of an interdisciplinary team in a fast-paced deadline and deliverable-oriented setting
Preferred:
- Experience in the delivery of geospatial products and analytical solutions as they relate to Environmental Assessments
- Familiarity with provincial (Ontario) and federal government datasets
- Experience with Python
- Proficient with LiDAR data
- Exposure to working with image analysis software
- Working knowledge of Autodesk software and drawing formats (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, AutoCAD Map 3D)
Education and Experience
University or college graduate in GIS or related discipline with a minimum of 4 years of GIS experience in a GIS environment or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
An environmental sciences diploma/degree or similar would be an asset.
