The Director, Strategic Support is responsible for providing oversight and support on business plans and execution to senior management and all units within Canadian Banking Engineering. The role is responsible for providing leadership to drive change and lead the team in the identification of appropriate cross-departmental plans and initiatives in support of the unit’s business strategy. Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures.
Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:
Lead in the development of change initiatives and contribute to the development of strategy, strategic priorities, and short- and long-term vision plan in collaboration with the senior management team. Maintain strong knowledge of overall group strategy and goals and assist in ensuring strategic alignment across businesses.
Manage the execution and results of key initiatives by project management and coordination of all aspects of projects including planning, scheduling, resources, risk assessment, cost/benefit analysis, time/cost estimates, tracking budgets/costs, reporting and a post-implementation review of project work. Maintain tracking/monitoring of Canadian Banking Engineering initiatives and report on progress.
Lead the internal business communication strategy development and tactical execution to ensure consistent and effective messaging to all internal stakeholders including management meetings, town halls, ScotiaPulse committees and staff events. In close partnership with Global Communications, identify strategic communications opportunities. Coordinate planning for events that feature Retail Customer, internally and externally, and work in partnership with Global Communications to ensure consistent messaging across all groups of stakeholders.
Support business line financial analysis, planning and reporting by working closely with Finance to manage the creation and analysis of monthly, quarterly and annual centralized reporting on key business results and maintain appropriate cadence for core management meetings to review and discuss results. In collaboration with the Analytics Team develops reporting to support decision making on major business initiatives and develops management reports of key metrics for use by the leadership team. Maintain/improve efficiency and expense discipline associated with Canadian Banking Engineering.
Deliver or be a key participant on special projects and business initiatives, as assigned by the SVP, that drive business value. Engages in philanthropic initiatives that are aligned to the strategic objectives of Canadian Banking Engineering .
Champion a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of the respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We'd love to work with you if you have:
University degree and over 10 years of financial services and management experience
Proven track record in strategy development including in-depth experience and demonstrated success in leading multi-disciplinary initiatives of varying sizes and complexity, efficiently and effectively, ensuring all elements of change are considered, understood, and managed
Expert knowledge of project and portfolio management concepts, techniques and tools
Strong organizational skills to coordinate and prioritize a number of concurrent projects
Excellent visionary, planning and analytical skills
Ability to take calculated, enterprising risks supported by clear rationale (e.g., industry trends, competitive research, and positive cost benefit analysis)
Strong negotiating, influencing and communication skills (written and oral) to influence all levels of the organization through the presentation of insight based on sound investigation experiences
Strong leadership and interpersonal skills that facilitate a positive and effective team environment at all levels of the organization
High credibility with the Bank’s senior management team and with business line and other functional area management teams
