- As part of the Product Line Management (PLM) organization, this role will support and drive pricing activities for Ciena to ensure that pricing is aligned with customer value, business objectives and product strategy.
- Develop selling propositions to support pricing models and assist account teams in positioning with customers
- Generate reports and validate which pricing models are working; which ones need revision to improve effectiveness
- Selectively attend product development meetings to maintain visibility of new product introduction activities and provide input on pricing deliverables
- Generate new pricing models to assess scenarios and review within the product management team and drive communication across Ciena
- Deliver training to Commercial Managers and other internal stakeholders on new product pricing
- Work with Ciena Marketing to develop collateral explaining pricing levels and selling propositions
- Business Operations - New Product Introduction
- Work with product development teams to ensure that new parts have the correct "PLM attributes" to affect smooth transition to sales via configure, quote and pricing (CPQ) toolset
- Create and maintain product bundles to support packaging and/or customer-specific requests
- Collaborate with Ciena Marketing, Commercial Management, Account teams, as well as other PLM team members
- Business Operations - Processes and Tools
- Ensure PLM requirements are driven into the development and maintenance of the systems that run our business - such as quote and bid tools, CRM, parts database, order management systems and fulfilment systems
- Offload product line managers from tools and back office to allow them to focus on customers and products
Required Skills
- Pricing
- Familiar with pricing strategies and approaches for hardware and software
- Understand pricing concepts such as economic value to customer as a way to determine price
- Familiar with first-in pricing considerations for system sales
- Systems Skills
- Advanced Excel skills (Formulas, PivotTables, VLOOKUP, INDEX/MATCH, and Data Tables, What-if scenarios etc)
- Ability to quickly learn to use multiple corporate systems such as parts database, service entitlement system, purchase order system, etc)
- Experience as an advanced user with enterprise applications such as Salesforce, Oracle, etc
- Analysis Skills
- Ability to mine data, generate reports, derive meaningful insights
- Ability to synthesize data into actionable recommendations
- General technical knowledge of the network and communications industry.
- Work & Interpersonal Skills
- Good understanding of basic product financials - ROI, variable cost, cost reduction over time, gross margin, overhead costs, cost of capital, etc
- Detail-oriented and data-driven problem solver
- Driven to understand systems and processes at deep levels so we can get to issue root cause and process improvement
- Self-starter with ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Analytical, fact-based problem solver
- Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills
- Demonstrated experience working on multiple deliverables or projects from initiation to close-out, including effective planning, requirements gathering, workflow mapping, schedule, and issue tracking, highly organized
- Customer/market focused - ability to identify and prioritize business impacts of various tasks and requests
- Comfortable working with team members, broad range of co-workers across organizations, including peers and executives
Experience
- 3 years working in technical business role (such as Product Management or Project Management) in hardware or software product area
- Experience developing pricing of hardware/software solutions in a business-to-business environment
- Experience supporting sales processes by working closely with Sales and Sale Engineering teams

The annual pay range for this position is $68,400 - $109,200 CAD.
Pay ranges at Ciena are designed to accommodate variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations, reflecting our diverse products, industries, and lines of business. Please note that the pay range information provided in this posting pertains specifically to the primary location, which is the top location listed in case multiple locations are available.
Non-Sales employees may be eligible for a discretionary incentive bonus, while Sales employees may be eligible for a sales commission.
