Purpose:
The Human Resources Advisor contributes to the overall success of the Human Resources (HR) Business Partner team in the US, ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives. The incumbent ensures all activities are conducted in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.
The Human Resources Advisor reports to a Senior Manager, HRBP in the U.S and works closely with the whole Business Partner team, contributing to their success in achieving business objectives by building and maintaining a capable workforce that will be committed to delivering Bank’s strategies and promoting Scotiabank as an employer of choice.
The incumbent is responsible for supporting efforts to drive Scotiabank’s HR people agenda and enabling our talent strategy under the direction of the Senior Manager, HRBP for the US. The incumbent will be responsible for program management support to the US HRBP’s for key global and local HR/people initiatives and processes ensuring specific individual goals, plans, and initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies. The HR Advisor will support with data; reporting and analytics focus will include, but is not limited to: communications, performance management, professional development, career advancement, promotions, employee engagement, total rewards, culture and diversity and inclusion.
As a trusted team member, the incumbent will leverage knowledge of Human Resources and understanding of emerging issues and best practices and support the U.S HRBP team to identify, develop and implement innovative HR solutions by leveraging strong analytical and presentation skills.
What You’ll Do:
- Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
- Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
- Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct.
- Champions a high-performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment, communicating vison/values/business strategy and managing succession and development planning for the team.
- Ensures compliance with local statutory and regulatory requirements in areas related to human resources by keeping abreast of the latest legislations and enforcing adherence to these requirements.
Providing effective relationship management for HRBPs by:
- Building and managing relationships with HRBPs, US HR team and Center of Excellence (COE’s) gaining a solid understanding of their objectives.
- Partnering with HRBPs, Center of Excellence (COE’s) and US HR Operations to track and address ongoing HR initiatives, creating a better experience for the client.
- Supporting HRBPs in end-to-end execution of Scotiabank HR strategy; driving strategy locally.
- Planning, developing, organizing, implementing, and evaluating HR program efforts within client groups, under the supervision of HRBP Lead for the US
Providing support with data reporting and analytics for HRBPS by:
- Providing specialized reporting and analytics on HR/people metrics to support data-driven people decisions, set HR priorities, and identify opportunities for improvement
- Partnering with Center of Excellence (COE) contact to provide meaningful data/tracking of talent and leadership initiatives (9box results, leadership development metrics and action plans etc.), as well as ad-hoc reporting needs.
- Preparing dashboards/presentations for Senior Management meetings to communicate progress against key performance indicators and program initiatives.
Providing support on performance management and development for HRBPs by:
- Coordinating and supporting Scotiabank’s annual performance review process by assisting in implementing performance management policies and processes to support Bank’s continued focus in becoming a performance-oriented organization; retrieving and customizing reports for tracking and monitoring of performance management process.
Providing support on employee engagement, diversity and inclusion and culture for HRBPs by:
- Participating and supporting onboarding and employee engagement programs to maximize retention
- Assisting with reviewing and consolidating Exit Interview feedback to support the HRBPs in providing insights to the business.
- Assisting in reviewing employee engagement survey results for HRBP team and consolidating action plans for the HRBP team. Proactively utilizing a wide range of HR data to identify themes/trends and recommending effective HR strategies to meet the business needs.
- Providing support on implementing US Best of the Best Awards, including but not limited to: communication strategy.
- Providing support on the US D&I Committee action items, including but not limited to: Diversity & Inclusion logistical administration, US Reverse Mentoring Program, lunch and learn sessions, training events for employees.
Providing support on employee total rewards for HRBPs by:
- Contributing to the year-end process reviews by preparing compensation reporting and analysis for HRBP Team
Providing support on talent and leadership management for HRBPs by:
- Assisting in updating and collating talent information for management reviews. Preparing talent presentation deck based on global standards and policies
- Assisting with the planning and execution of leadership processes (i.e. 9box, Succession Planning and Global and US Talent Reviews), scheduling session dates, preparing materials (including org charts), and designing and implementing standardized metrics while focusing on key priorities and specific areas of opportunity.
Contributing to the broader HR community and to the effective functioning of the United States HR team by:
- Providing technical advice and knowledge to others within the human resources discipline
- Contributing to the creation of HR policies and programs through participation in special projects and tasks forces
- Focusing on continuous improvement of HR programs, policies, practices and processes
What You’ll Bring:
- 2-4 years working experience in HR or related education and internship experiences.
- Ability to learn about key global trends in inclusion, employee engagement, talent management and/or human resources.
- Demonstrated project management skills, including ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and follow through on completion of high-profile projects
- Strong team player, with a continuous improvement mindset and strong ability to partner with colleagues.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral, with developing skill in interacting with all levels of management.
- Ability to work under pressure and juggle competing priorities without compromising quality.
- Strong experience working with Microsoft Office Applications (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
