Major Responsibilities:
- Performs skilled and semi-skilled tasks in the installation, operation, maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment, building and ground services, facilities, automotive equipment, construction and maintenance not requiring the services of a licensed tradeworker.
- Provide work direction and training to others and provides feedback on performance.
- Makes adjustments and repairs to equipment.
- Prepares and maintains written reports and documents related to maintenance and construction and activities.
- Ensures compliance with contracts, relevant legislation, health and safety standards and acceptable productivity levels.
- Requisitions supplies and maintains records of equipment, inventory and other assets.
- May perform general machine shop work including oxy-acetylene or electric welding.
- Performs general maintenance, repairs and construction work in connection with mechanical equipment, building and ground services, facilities, automotive and other equipment, not requiring the services of a licensed tradeworker.
- Operates various types of motor vehicles, tractors, tractors, forklift, trenchers and other specialized equipment associated with maintenance and construction work.
- Operates power equipment and specialized tools for sharpening and adjusting maintenance equipment.
- Assists tradeworkers as required.
- May be required to transport crews to work sites.
- Performs other related work as assigned.
Key Qualifications:
Your application must describe your qualifications as they relate to:
- Experienced in oxy-acetylene or electric welding.
- Experienced in the testing and repairing of mechanical equipment and in minor repairs to automotive equipment.
- Ability and experience in general machine shop practice and in the operation of machines associated with machine shop practice.
- Must possess and be able to maintain a valid Province of Ontario, Class “G” Driver’s License and must qualify for the City’s equipment operating permits and requirements.
You must also have:
- Ability to perform general maintenance, construction and repairs to equipment, buildings, mechanical equipment and services using a wide range of equipment.
- Ability to provide work direction and training to others.
- Ability to read and interpret sketches/ maps/ blueprints.
- Effective oral and written communication skills including the ability to prepare accurate and concise operation reports.
- Must be familiar with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, and the regulations that apply to this work.
- Must be physically capable of performing required duties.
- Ability to deal courteously with the public.
- Must be able to work in all weather conditions.
- Must be available to work shift/weekend/overtime/on call duty.
