PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
The Director, Compensation position plays a crucial role in designing and managing our compensation programs to attract, retain, and motivate top railroad talent across the CPKC network. This role requires a strategic leader with a passion for solving business challenges and leading people. POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Lead a team of professionals building compensation offerings across our North American railroad network (Canada, United States and Mexico), supporting a high performance culture
- Lead the annual compensation review process including salary planning, incentive awards, equity grants, compensation system updates and communication
- Provide leadership and guidance on compensation-related matters including job evaluations, salary recommendations, market reviews, organization design, and career framework development
- Manage the relocation program involving in-country and trans-border relocations, with a mandate to augment the program given CPKC’s growth and evolving needs
- Support the preparation of Company public disclosure materials and administration of executive compensation programs
- Lead or support special projects as needed including in-country total rewards design and pay equity
- Support the Human Resources leadership team including preparing executive level materials for the CHRO, CEO and Board
- Stay abreast of emerging trends, legislation and market practices.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Finance, or a related field
- Certified Compensation Professional (CPP) or Certified Employee Benefits (CEBS) designation; an asset
- Minimum 8 to 10 years’ experience managing compensation and total rewards programs
- Demonstrated people leadership experience and capacity to mentor and grow the compensation team
- Seasoned communicator able to simplify complex topics and adapt to various audiences
- Creatively evaluate business needs and solutions through the lens of total rewards
- Familiarity with executive compensation and disclosure requirements of a publicly traded company
- Experience with total rewards programs and employment regulations in United States and Mexico; an asset
- Customer-service focused and ability to build strong relationships at all levels of the organization
- Excellent analytical skills, high attention to detail and ability to interpret complex data
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities and tight deadlines
- Proficiency in compensation-related software (SAP, SuccessFactors or other enterprise systems)
- Advanced user of MS Office Suite

Management Conductor Program:
